KELLY (00:00) Are you ready for some football? Sorry, I'm not a very good singer, but now that football season has officially kicked off, how many of you, and I was gonna say women, but in my house it's the men, the man, enter into widowhood because of sports, especially football. I know Natalie. And Mindy both deal with that in their house. Mindy especially, I know her husband is a fanatic. So that's gonna be today's topic here on Sugar Spice and Spirits. I'm Kelly, one of your hosts, along with Natalie and Mindy, and we are gonna talk about the turmoil in some households when people deal with losing their spouse to football. So, but before we get started, as usual, let's start off with our sip of the day. I am kicking off with I I'm not I love beer, of course, but I also love coming a sweet drink every once in a while. So I'm going with a Mike's Hard Lemonade. It's so good. This is a black cherry. you can't go wrong 'cause it's nice and ice cold and everything's so anyway. That was my go to. So ladies, what what's your go to for the day? Natalie Pilkinton (01:04) It's so it's fall, getting ready for fall. So I got my fall cup, my my coffee cup. I'm a coffee cup connoisseur, if you guys haven't realized yet. And I got my little pumpkin spice creamer for my coffee. So let's go. KELLY (01:17) Yeah. Mindy Price (01:18) Very nice. Well, I have tequila addictivo, KELLY (01:22) Ooh. Mindy Price (01:23) the double reposado, and the little history behind that. If you watch the episode where I talked about accidentally buying nine bottles of Don Julio and then searching for something that tasted just as well, if not better, this is my favorite one so far. And I have been on the hunt for about Five years. So if you have a tequila recommendation that you think I should try that has that type of flavor, if you've had it without the artificial additives, let's not go into that. That's a whole other episode. I would love to know. But that is what I will be sipping on today. So cheers, ladies. KELLY (01:56) Yeah. Cheers, everyone. Natalie Pilkinton (01:58) Yep. KELLY (02:03) Ooh, yum. That's good. Mindy Price (02:06) Very good. KELLY (02:07) So for for those of you who are tuning in on YouTube and can actually see us, we are all three sporting our our different sports teams. I think Natalie and I are both sporting some Houston Texans. Mindy is sporting her college team, Texas A&M I was gonna wear my UT, but I couldn't, I couldn't get my shirt on in time. So I went with the with the Texans. But whether it's pro football or college, I think everyone has their own opinions. I I know in the beginning, Natalie, when before we got on, You were talking about how a lot of times the the women, women are most most often the the widows of of sports because let's face it, men are way more involved in sports than than women in some cases. But where the women play a role, a lot of time is when we get ready to tailgate and the women make all the food and everything, and then then they just kind of drift off into oblivion because the food's there, it's on the table, and here comes everyone, and they're glued to the TV. So I know I mean I I do that a little bit, but I tend to gravitate where the where the party is and I I don't do a lot of cooking. I grab a finger food and bring it to it and and everything. So what about what about you, Mindy? Mindy Price (03:19) Well, first off, Natalie, I just took note of something. Let's not tailgate with Kelly. Because well, no, maybe not, maybe not. But the tailgates you go to, because the tailgates I go to for years when the Texans were first here and we w we had tickets all this second to the last row in I don't know if it was NRG Stadium or what was it called at the time. Like that's what we could afford for season tickets. And we had our tailgate. And I would just roll up there with Tristan. He was a little baby. And I didn't do anything. And I don't know if that just became tradition, but Travis took care of everything and all the guys would grill and do whatever. And then at our Aggie football tailgate, they're amazing. The guys take care of everything. You roll in there, you show up. That's my kind of tailgating. But I know that's not where you were going. I was just taking mental note. Don't want to go to your tailgate. Just kidding. Natalie Pilkinton (04:10) Ha ha ha. KELLY (04:10) No, and well, I mean, I'm I am part of a huge tailgating team. shout out to the battle wagon crew. We we get up on Sunday mornings and we head up to the to the it's now reliant. It was NRG, now it's back to reliant. And we are in line by 6:30 in the morning. And when I tell you my poor husband would love to sleep in on Sundays, and I'm like, get up, it's five o'clock, we're gonna be late, let's go. We have the day before loaded everything. We have a wrapped bus. We have a big trailer. And we make a full day of it. If you've ever watched the Texans on TV and you've seen the guy in the in in the end zone with the big huge horns, well, that's that's Gustavo, one of my very best friends, graduate graduated from high school. He's had those seats since day one of of Houston's 25 years. Today's our 25 year today, this year's their 25 year anniversary. so yeah, and they've gonna they're predicting a really great year and I'm excited. So but it it's Mindy Price (05:08) I have to tell you, funny, real quick before you move away, because you said Gustavo in the end. I will never forget the first time that I met Gustavo, aka Clay Walker. KELLY (05:19) Yes, my gosh, yes. Mindy Price (05:22) We were at the Missouri County Fair in Angleton, KELLY (05:24) my gosh. Mindy Price (05:25) Texas, and they they had concerts coming out. This is still when so many people were coming out for the concerts and everything. And It was so funny because we were standing somewhere and then all of a sudden this guy that was Claywalker's about height and haircut and build at the time had on this beautiful black felt 10, 20, 500,000 X whatever hat and this black suede jacket. It was like wow like very do you just see this person and my husband knows that like I love clay walker like that was you know I just I love Clay Walker Natalie Pilkinton (06:04) Yeah. Mindy Price (06:06) I'm 10 feet taller than him but I love Clay Walker anyways Natalie Pilkinton (06:09) I mean who doesn't love Clay Walker? Mindy Price (06:10) yes so so Travis goes and maybe it was beer goggles I don't know he goes Mindy Mindy there's clay walker and I turn around I'm like that's not clay walker well some people start hearing us say clay walker. So the crowd starts coming around and gathering around Clay Walker. And we're just like, my God, it's Clay Walker. And there's lots of people there. And he starts talking to people. He is hammering up. He's having a great time. And then we realize it's not Clay Walker. It's Gustavo. So KELLY (06:42) It's Gus. It's good old Gus. yeah. I've I you know what? He is Natalie Pilkinton (06:42) Yeah. KELLY (06:46) always styling and profiling and he represents the Texans so great and he represents us so great. And yeah, he's he is he's a blast. So that it doesn't it doesn't surprise me that he hammed that up for for a little bit. So but yeah, he's been the battle wagon crew has been around for years. I've only been on there for a couple of years, but it's amazing if people want to come by. We do drinks and food and And it it's fun. I mean, and if you have not had the opportunity to tailgate at any stadium, I've been to Mindy's tailgate at A&M and my gosh, it is overwhelming. So I am not anti A and I had two kids go to A&M. I had one go to LSU. I went to UT. I got my doctor at Texas Tech. So my I Mindy Price (07:28) Your late husband went to A&M KELLY (07:30) my late husband went to Texas A&M. So I our family is like a crayon box of you know, I've I've got I've got my Texas Tech koozie for those of you who are watching. So it It doesn't really matter. I cheer for everyone. And I cheer for for football in pro and in and in college. And when I alluded to Mindy's husband being so crazy funny, when you he loves all sports, but I I learned that when you when you watch a game and and Travis has not been able to watch the game, Travis records the game. So you better not come into their house or send them a text and say, my gosh, I can't believe we won. And I did that one time. I will not do it a second time because he was so upset with me. He's like, I record the gang. And I'm like, well, who records the gang? I just want to know what the outcome is. And no, I don't do that anymore. So I I don't I don't say a word. I walk in like, how you doing? And he records them and because he wants to see everything. So he he's so funny. I love I love listening to him. And he's a screamer. I'm a screamer. You can hear us three blocks over screaming at the players and it's j everyone on the block can tell when it's football season because Natalie Pilkinton (08:39) Yeah, when you say screamer, I'm thinking something else, but okay. KELLY (08:43) Hey, you know what? In in true sugar spice and spirits attitude, we we always tend to go the the the colorful route. So I I realized when I said that that someone was probably gonna go there and ding ding ding, cheers to you, Natalie. You went there. So Natalie Pilkinton (08:58) Hey, cheers. Nothing wrong with some fun. So Brian Mindy Price (09:02) Tell us about you, yeah. Natalie Pilkinton (09:03) Brian didn't I didn't realize how much of a football guy he was until like 'cause we we traveled a lot when we first started dating and then he so we'd always be gone on the weekend and didn't we weren't home much. And all of a sudden he's like, Well, it's Sunday, and I'm like, What does that mean? Like, we gotta go to church. What is that like he's like, We have to go to early church, we have to do this. We had and like, This is where KELLY (09:24) Mm-hmm. Natalie Pilkinton (09:25) we're at. Like, okay, I get it. So, it's been fun like watching him just enjoy like you can't talk to him during the game. You can't say anything, you know. It you know, maybe during a commercial break you can say something, but he's watching the place, he's calling him before the, you know, announcers call him and he played college football. So he's always had a passion for football and he's coached and everything. And you know, I'm one of those I like to watch my kid play. Like they my kids played little league football. We were the Super Bowl champs. It was a lot of fun. I had both my kids a Super Bowl. Like one was a Super Bowl champ and one was the runner up. So it was a lot of fun watching little league football. Like the coaches, Mason's first play of the game, like his first like real play of playing little league football. He turns around and he took this kid and he sacks and throws him down. It wasn't a sack, but it was a tackle. He throws him down and he goes over the kid and he goes, Booyah. And they flew KELLY (10:21) Yeah. Natalie Pilkinton (10:22) a flag through a flag and they were like, KELLY (10:24) Taunting Natalie Pilkinton (10:25) Yeah. And he's like, What did I do? I just went told us to do in practice. And they were like, no, no, not the game. They forgot to tell the kids like practice versus the real game. So all the coaches were laughing. But that's also the team we ended up winning with. And those guys were great helping coach the kids. But then it's like even watching like Brian's brother in law just had his leg amputated last yesterday. So we're at the hospital with him and we're watching bite football. And it's one of the, you know, one of the like number one running backs in Texas is playing for Westfield. And it's one of their friends, like our nephew's friends. And so they're talking all about him, and we're watching him make all these plays. Like football is everywhere, whether it is high school. Whether it's, you know, they're watching these guys are watching the stats. They're like, you know, their morning routine, like who did what? What were the rushing yards? For what team? Where are they going? Who's playing where? Like it is above and beyond. Even he does, of course, Brian does it with all sports, like cross country is like, this girl ran this. So it'll be with track. my gosh, they did this in a mile, you know, like, or they ran this fast. And so it's pretty fun to watch him though in his element and actually enjoy it. And I even got included and invited into the anybody do fantasy football? Mindy Price (11:41) Yes, time out real quick before you s talk about fantasy football, Nataile I gotta say this because I can relate on so many levels, football and also watching your kids and everything else. You talked about the littles. So when Tristan first started playing baseball, it's not like it is now. Baseball's always on the house and outside TVs, you know, now. But Tristan gets up to, I think it was T Ball. I mean, that was so long ago. I can't remember. I don't know if it was Coach Pitcher. No, it was, it was T Ball. Y'all, he hits the ball to the pitcher. He doesn't run to first. He runs and he tackles the pitcher. Natalie Pilkinton (12:19) Yeah. Mindy Price (12:20) Tell me you grew up watching baseball or football. And Natalie Pilkinton (12:23) Ha ha ha. Mindy Price (12:24) I won't bore you with more stories, but that game, it was there were three different things that happened. The parents were crying. You're seeing the old phones come out, you know, to record because it wasn't like the same as it is now. And just so so funny. And the joy that it when you think about it, the joy that you have seeing your kid play in sports is just there's KELLY (12:44) Yes. Mindy Price (12:45) to me, I think a mama's heart and a daddy's heart, like There is none other. And then of course the pleasure of just sitting back, not worrying about I don't want anybody to get hurt. But when I'm watching college football, even high school football, we go back and we watch knowing that's not your kid, you're not so freaked out. But when somebody get hurt gets hurt, I don't care, college professional, it Natalie Pilkinton (13:04) Yeah. Mindy Price (13:05) I'm saying prayers immediately, whether it's like the KELLY (13:07) Yes. Mindy Price (13:07) best player on the team that's kicking my team's butt or Or whatever. And it takes me back to thinking about when my kid was on on the field. And not to be a Debbie Downer on that. I just was, you know, had the mama feelings that were bubbling up inside of me. And then I had that vision of Tristan tackling the pitcher. He didn't understand what he did wrong. And Natalie Pilkinton (13:26) He's he was combining sports. I mean, why not? Let's let's make it make it happen, right? KELLY (13:29) Well Mindy Price (13:30) Why not? KELLY (13:31) and I tell you, some of the cutest TikToks are the kids playing T ball. I there's this one little kid and h and his dad and I I this is about football, but let's you know, we we ha go off on tangents. Tan tangent tax on tangent tax, Mindy Price (13:43) we're going back to fantasy. Not that fantasy, Natalie. KELLY (13:46) but but there is a little kid and he's squatted down and he's like looking at the guy and he's doing the doing the I see you and and then the one little girl that's playing T ball and she's She hits the ball and she runs on the way to first base, but she has to stop into her cartwheel and then keeps running to first base. It if you guys look up on TikTok, T ball, my gosh, you hours. I said, I'm like, I've got to put my phone down. I've got to put my phone down. And you you will it it it is Mindy Price (14:11) do that. I haven't done that. That I talk about when you're if you're having a slump. KELLY (14:16) it's fun, it's funny, it's heartwarming because they're yeah, they same thing. They hit the ball and then they run and grab it and tackle it. Yeah, it it's it's great. And I haven't seen as many little league football TikToks. I'm sure they're out there. and I'm gonna look for them now because they're if those kids are so cute when they're in full pads and they think they are indestructible and they just go in their Natalie Pilkinton (14:36) Or bottlehead. KELLY (14:37) head first like a bull. my gosh, it's it's it's great. But when Mindy Price (14:42) Kelly, did you ever come to a game with us when we were playing? and I I guess maybe we weren't friends back then, but Tristan got penalized for excessive celebration because that kid could maneuver and go in and just attack all the other kids. And he would stand up and he would his chest like who was Natalie, who was our play Kelly, who was our player on the Texans that would do this? Natalie Pilkinton (15:03) JJ Watt would do it, wouldn't he? Mindy Price (15:05) was it JJ Watt? KELLY (15:05) Jet je Mindy Price (15:06) But then there was another one, the brown headed guy. Natalie Pilkinton (15:08) Cushing. Mindy Price (15:09) Cushing. I think it was him that did that. So he so so he somebody's gonna tech correct us, whatever the case is. So remember, I'm I I'm the football, KELLY (15:11) Brian K yeah. The the brown headed guy. The brown headed guy. Wear a helmet. Natalie Pilkinton (15:18) Right, right, right. Let us know. Mindy Price (15:21) you know, wife that loses her Natalie Pilkinton (15:23) Right. Mindy Price (15:23) husband during the season. I watch college football and sometimes professional. Anyway, so he he we started getting warnings that you know, no excessive celebration for the kids. And he wasn't rude. Tristan didn't talk crap, but What he would do because he couldn't do it, the s fans in the stand started standing up and doing it. And so then he would just point to the stands and we would all stand up. It was the cutest thing. Natalie Pilkinton (15:51) Yeah. KELLY (15:52) Now now see that would that Mindy Price (15:52) Okay, Natalie. KELLY (15:53) that would be cute like like our little basketball player who's you know, if he would just like point out to the stand and say, Anyway, there's my posse up there So that would have been Natalie Pilkinton (16:02) Yeah. So I KELLY (16:04) cute. Natalie Pilkinton (16:04) I got invited to the fantasy football league. Like the family fantasy football for all the football KELLY (16:10) Wow. Natalie Pilkinton (16:10) fanatics. So it's pretty exciting. Last year I tried to use Chat GPT to help me pick my team. I was not fast enough and I was not good enough. However, I did come in last place. So I think I won maybe one game through the whole season. So it was fun though. But I did get invited back. KELLY (16:27) So it's funny that you say something about fantasy football. Cause this morning they actually did on one of the morning shows, they they did a a section on fantasy football. And there was a gentleman on there, I'm not sure who he was, but he had his daughter there. And he was trying to teach her how to successfully pick her team and everything. Because what they really highlighted, it's so funny that you said that, that you came in last place, Natalie, is they highlighted the fact that They they showed people who if they came in last place and lost, they had to they they were subject to doing something they didn't want to do. Like like one guy had to dress up as a chicken and parade down the street or something. And and for her, if if she if his daughter comes in last place, they have to be slathered in like red sauce or ketchup or condiments. And he said, Please don't slather my daughter in condiments or something. So I was like, Wow, this is like really And and we talked about how how involved it is and stuff. I just I just never I never did it because I was I don't know, I I just never did, but I may have to check it out. So 'cause it sounds Natalie Pilkinton (17:31) Yeah, you gotta drop your players, check the injured reserve. Mindy, have you done fantasy? Mindy Price (17:36) Yeah, and I will say I am a recovering fantasy football participant. The last KELLY (17:42) If you have a problem, call this number. Mindy Price (17:44) last season was amazing, and I withheld this season as well. So I I started doing it because Travis loves football so much. And also because in the industry that I was predominantly in at the time and and really anywhere, football is something universal that you typically can bring up and talk about with you know different People. And so I thought, okay, let me get to know the players. It will help me get to know players from other teams. And when Travis is watching every football game under the sun, I may have one of those players. So I have an interest in watching the game. So Natalie, I didn't have the AI to help me, but I literally would go on and I would read all the stats and I would Google all the players and I would do all the things and I'd write everybody down. And I would go in with notes and notes and notes of who I wanted to get. And the first year I did it. I came in last. so there's that. So then because it just goes so fast the way you pick. Maybe I came in not last. But then the next year that I did it, I I I got better at it. And I I didn't, I don't think I placed last. And then Kelly, they started talking about doing that weird stuff. If you come in last, what you have to do. And I was the only female in the group too, PS, by the way. So the trash talking, they did calm it down a lot, I guess, when I got in there because we also had a Facebook group. But then I actually came in third. Natalie, the year, and I don't know how many I did it, but the year that I came in third, I got bo I got got busy. I think we were at my father-in-law's house. An auto pick selected me, auto draft. And that literally was the thing. And so you can tell on whatever thing we were using if it's on auto draft. And it and so then they I don't know if they've made a rule. They talked about it's like you can't be on auto draft. Like you can't let it pick for you. That that's part of the game. That's part of doing this. But I I, you know, I picked my few and then I went on auto draft and yes. And then the next year Anyway, I came in last a lot of times, y'all. And you get so busy too. Natalie, you said you have to drop players. You have to see who's injured. You have to watch all of this stuff. And I had such a demanding job. I could not the the year that I the when we all worked together was the last year that I had a team. And that year I just let it go. I was like, I I can't. And I didn't Natalie Pilkinton (20:05) Yeah. Mindy Price (20:06) really pay attention. And Travis and I had a rule. We weren't gonna cheat because he was in the league too. It's like He's like, no, like this is a challenge. I'm gonna beat you, babe. Now if I asked him about KELLY (20:15) Yeah. Mindy Price (20:15) a player, he would tell me something. But fantasy football's crazy. You get into conversations with people. Have you noticed it, Natalie? They are I don't know what to say. I don't know what to call they're passionate. Natalie Pilkinton (20:29) Passionate. KELLY (20:29) Fashion. Natalie Pilkinton (20:29) That's a that's a great word. Yeah. So I KELLY (20:31) So so it sounds so it sounds like maybe you you you did the fantasy football to connect with your husband, maybe, or or is it just something that you wanted to do? Mindy Price (20:40) Connect with my husband and connect with my clients. Think you know, thank you for that clarification. KELLY (20:43) Okay. Mindy Price (20:44) One thousand percent it started with wanting to connect more with Travis during the football season and want to have a reason to be paying attention to these teams that I really didn't care about and learn why if this team wins, it puts us in a better this than da-da-da-da-da-da-da. But also I realized all of the conversations that I was having and and a lot with men. Now some women were really into it and love those conversations. I was able to participate and I felt like I had something padded. I had it. I had something KELLY (21:15) You had it? Natalie Pilkinton (21:16) I had it too. Mindy Price (21:18) to add versus just sitting there going do. KELLY (21:24) 'Cause the last thing you want to do is is to to sit there and and comment on a play. If you're not really educated with football, comment on a play and everyone kinda looks at you like, Yeah, no, that that there's no innings in football. What inning is it? It's like, no, dear, I'm sorry. Did he did he just make a basket? no, that was a field. Yeah. Right. So Natalie Pilkinton (21:37) So what did the umps say? Yeah. I I think it's important for men though, because it's it's we can sit here and dismiss, you know, like, yeah, it's okay, it's cool, it's fine, like we enjoy it, we have fun with it. but I do think there's men that take it too far and they neglect their family and they neglect their responsibility and they don't take care of. I will say one thing. before a game comes on or before something happens, Brian will tell me. He's like, okay, I got this, this, and that. What do need? What do you need from me so I can make sure you're okay? And then I'll go do this. And I think that's so important as a man out there. Like if you're a football fanatic and whatever fanatic you're in, your your hobbies can be too much if you're not taking care of your home first. Obviously take care of the home first and then go have your peace and your escape. But just like a mom can't go out on a girls' night all the time or go out shopping. all the time and having dinner, you have to take care of your home responsibilities first. So just I want to throw that out there. Like don't just be like, well those ladies say that we can do. No, no, no. Make sure you're taking care of your home and taking care of the family and your responsibility. So if you got to get up early and do that, if that means you got to do it Saturday, you do it Saturday. So you're free on Sunday. I just want to throw that PSA out there for a little bit of peace and sanity for yourself. Mindy Price (22:57) Natalie, KELLY (22:57) There you go. Mindy Price (22:58) this was so sweet. So last night I had a bunch of deadlines and I text Travis around 3 30. I was like, hey, I'm gonna have to work late. Will you please take care of dinner tonight? And I wasn't even thinking that it was a Thursday and that football was on. And literally he came home, he cooked dinner before he went outside and got that done. And it was just And I was like, wait, he normally cooks a little bit later. And then I realized, football is on. So he got, he took care of it. In between breaks, he would come in. I'm sitting in here and he was like, Hey, have you eaten yet? And I was just I was in creative mode. So I was like, No, I've got to get this pumped out. And it that was that was really, really nice. And and I will say, there have been years, because you know, we've really been focused on communication. There have been years where when it's football, fend for yourself. And it's so much nicer. when it's like, hey, let me take care of this stuff. So I think that's an awesome point. And if somebody's listening, a man, a woman, that are just like, gosh, I it's like you ghost me, how about take care of those responsibilities, have that quick conversation to know you can still get this stuff done? So great point. KELLY (24:06) And yeah, I I agree because it's it's it can be a a topic of it could be very tense in in a lot of households. I I will I love sports. I love all sports, but I like to watch my teams. I don't typically just sit there and binge watch game after game after game, regardless of who it is. Now, there are some of those that do, and and it doesn't matter if it's their favorite team or not, they are just so into it. You know, I when the now you do lose me when the Olympics come on. Because I love so many different sports that I'm just sitting there glued. And I know my husband came in one one time and and it was like three o'clock in the morning and he was he was like, What are you doing? Like, I'm watching gymnastics. You know, I grew up as a gymnast. He said, You know, they're gonna replay it later on. but it's live and I he's like, okay, you're fine. I'm going in the other room. So I you know, I think everyone has their passion. And but since we're at football, we're talking about football season, and I was never into college football until Lance got me into it. And then I went to a you know, of course I went to the UT games when I when I was in college and stuff. But when I went to an A&M game with Lance and Brandon and Mark and that whole crew and Mindy and Travis and everyone, it I was like, I mean, I got chills just now. I like, my gosh. And I was hooked. And then LSU, and then of course now I to the UT game. So I can certainly see how you how you get hooked in. But there are some women who and some men who just don't give a flying rat's butt about sports. And if you happen to be that partner, there's a lot of communication and a lot of understanding. Like both of you guys said, responsibility comes first, then the the bonus should be the the enjoyment part. So Natalie Pilkinton (25:50) to add to that, so there is a there is a a trifold here or like an another side to the coin. So having previously been married and fought for that marriage for so long, I would get migraines on Sunday on Sundays. And one of the triggers was football. And so I had this approach of when it's like a PTSD thing to football or anything on on Sunday because my ex would overpartake and just become unbearable. By, you know, as the night progressed, and I knew what that meant for me as a mother and as, you know, trying to get littles to bed and trying to get them ready. And just the weight of Sunday and the weight of what football became to the family, it was really horrible. And I just, you know, so as a public service announcement, not only do you take care of your family beforehand and make sure that they're good, don't be an ass after. Don't overpartake, don't over drink, don't and don't make it a habit that it's Sunday, it's my drunk day. because it it is impactful to the whole family and you will ruin your life if you continue down that path. And you will end up lonely and you will wonder why your kids don't talk to you. And you'll blame everybody else because you're on that victim mentality. So I'm not going on my AAA soapbox because my ex went to AAA and said, wow, they have it worse than me. And then my other friend went to AAA and he said, shit, that's the path I'm on. So, you know, it's like you need to take your your pick your battles with that and have fun with it, but don't overpartake and don't be the ass. Don't be the one that nobody wants to be around and don't be the one that you're revolving your whole football watching schedule around who has pitchers of beer and serves pitchers or buckets of beer, because that life is not a good life for the rest of the family. So That's what that brought up, like too, like thinking about like having fun, yes. But KELLY (27:41) But there's a limit. Natalie Pilkinton (27:42) it's the other side of it too. Like if you have responsibilities, you know, Sunday night is is ki getting ready for getting kids ready for school. Getting it's not let's cosmagium in the house. Yeah. Mindy Price (27:51) Getting yourself ready for work as well. If you don't have kids, it's like, hey, work is Monday and you want to start your Monday off, you know, you want to be ready to go. And then you gotta be ready for Monday night football. Natalie Pilkinton (28:02) Yeah. And KELLY (28:04) Which we can and and we can prob we Natalie Pilkinton (28:05) then KELLY (28:06) can probably even expand on this later on in the year when hunting season comes along. I don't hunt, so let me tell you what, I I am definitely the hunting widow. So we can have a whole nother topic with that. But but you're you know Natalie Pilkinton (28:21) Hey, is your freezer full? KELLY (28:24) Yes. I we didn't buy a half cow though. Anyway, so yes, it is. And now and I love going to the Deer Lease and hanging out. Minnie and I used to go to the Deer Lease when our husbands were on the same Deer Lease and hang out. We had it we had a blast, but you know, we never step foot in that nasty deer. I'm like, no, mm-mm. We're gonna be right here when you guys get back. So but but you know, you're you're right. W it it sounds silly because people think that there are so many other addictions out there, whether it's you know, gambling or or whatever, I mean you can be just so focused and involved with anything. that it can become detrimental to to your life and to your family when you just completely neglect and just kind of push everything out. I mean, like you said, you ghost that person. And it it's just yeah, it can become very, very detrimental to a successful relationship. So the fact that, you know, your relationship has to come first, your communication has to come first. Kudos to those that try to learn about the game, whether it's through fantasy football or or just sitting there watching and and pretending to know what they're talking about. it it's all about a happy medium and and a balance when it when it comes to any any season football season, baseball season, basketball season, the Olympics, hunting season. Natalie Pilkinton (29:34) D. KELLY (29:34) it it's it's in all Yeah, what? Nutcracker season. Yeah. Natalie Pilkinton (29:35) Nutcracker season. Mindy Price (29:38) That's coming up. Nutcracker season. Y'all need to come and see us at the Nutcracker. Real Natalie Pilkinton (29:42) Round top. Mindy Price (29:43) quick. So Kelly, I got I do have a couple rapid fires that I want to get through because I don't know your answers. All right. First, NFL KELLY (29:51) gosh. Mindy Price (29:51) or college. KELLY (29:54) Me? Mindy Price (29:55) Either one of you, NFL or college. KELLY (29:57) NFL first, college second. Mindy Price (29:59) Natalie. Natalie Pilkinton (30:00) watching college 'cause it's less like politicized to me. Like I my conspiracy theory comes out in all these college games. So KELLY (30:07) College is a lot more passionate. I think I think they're there for the spirit of the game Natalie Pilkinton (30:09) Yeah. KELLY (30:11) and not you know, so Natalie Pilkinton (30:13) Yeah. Mindy Price (30:14) Well, now they get paid, so that changes things. However, I was always NFL NFL until we actually started going to the games and tailgating and just being there and truly paying attention and having a kid there brings it back from before when I was younger. And so I love college football. I'll miss a NFL game. Okay. Do you like KELLY (30:34) Well and and I I I am the same I am the same way because i if you put Texas and A&M together or A&M L S U together versus the Texans and someone else, I'm gonna watch that college game. So I think a lot of times it just depends on on the circumstance 'cause it that that's a hard that that's a hard choice for me, but yeah. Anyway, go ahead, moving on. Mindy Price (30:53) Okay. In person at the game or at home on your couch? Natalie Pilkinton (30:59) Game. KELLY (31:00) Game. Mindy Price (31:01) swimming pool. I mean, listen. I know, I KELLY (31:04) Well, you didn't put the you didn't say swimming pool. But Natalie Pilkinton (31:07) Ha ha Mindy Price (31:08) know. I kinda, you know, I said your couch. I do love going, but we KELLY (31:10) And so and we're Mindy Price (31:12) used to go to every game. Now we still have our tailgate, but we pick and choose. I love watching the game at home. KELLY (31:19) Well, I I do too. And and out here where I live, we have a about eight or nine families out here in Bar X that always get together. So inadvertently, every game it's someone is cooking at their house, especially when it gets cold. We'll go over there. And now everyone out everyone out here has pools and so we're typically in the pool. yeah, so watching the game. So I I yeah, I I agree because it's safer that way too, 'cause we do sometimes partake in a little beer. So anyway. Mindy Price (31:44) Okay, Super Bowl party or stay home. Natalie Pilkinton (31:49) Super Bowl party. KELLY (31:50) Yeah, I like the Super Bowl parties. Yeah. Mindy Price (31:53) Super Bowl party at my house. Okay. KELLY (31:55) Yes. I w invitation accepted. Mindy Price (31:59) We've had some fun ones. All right. N okay. Fantasy football fun or ridiculous? Natalie Pilkinton (32:05) Both. They talk snack to me in the group 'cause I'm on an Android. So yeah, both. They're just jealous. KELLY (32:12) I would say I would say both. Mindy Price (32:13) We okay, tangent tax about to be observed. We gotta do an episode on Android versus iPhone people because Natalie KELLY (32:20) Versus indeed. Mindy Price (32:23) is the one that makes our group chat green. KELLY (32:27) Yes. Natalie Pilkinton (32:27) I am not. Apple makes it green. KELLY (32:30) No, well, true. We have a group text out here at the at Bar X and my husband is an Android guy and and he wanted to join in and they said, no, he's green. So he's like the only so what's going this week I'm like, Well, if you have an iPhone, you know it's Natalie Pilkinton (32:46) See the bullying. What about the acceptance and the love? Y'all can't handle all that. Go ahead. Mindy Price (32:50) So KELLY (32:51) It's all in fun. It's all in fun. Cheers to that. Mindy Price (32:51) to be it okay, tangent tax. Cheers, ladies. I got a couple more. Natalie Pilkinton (32:55) Cheers. KELLY (32:55) Yes, we're defin yeah, stay tuned guys, because we are definitely gonna have have a podcast on that, so Mindy Price (33:00) hey, sugar subicensed spirits.com, spill the tea, give us ideas, tell us your opinions, or comment here. We will bring it up. We do your drink recommendations KELLY (33:07) Absolutely. Mindy Price (33:08) too. All right. Vacation. Would you take a vacation or would your spouse allow a vacation during Super Bowl? Natalie Pilkinton (33:16) Yes. But we'd be watching the game wherever we are. I mean KELLY (33:23) I'm like, honey, guess what? I booked a cruise. Okay. Do they have a sports bar? Or we're going to Vegas. Yeah. I I will tell you Natalie Pilkinton (33:29) Watching the World Series. Yeah, wherever you're at, you're watching, yeah. KELLY (33:32) I will tell you, we went to we went to Cabo a few years ago with a big group people and we took the fire stick and and literally we stayed at a b at a big house out there and we took the fire stick and it was when the Astros were in the World Series and we had that fire stick plugged in in the pool watching, you know, watching because we weren't gonna miss it. We were not gonna miss it. So and there's that really cool place in in Cabo that they're from Down in Texas, so they have all the big Astros stuff set up. Anyway, so different story. Okay. Mindy Price (34:04) That's awesome. Okay. So last rapid fire. Ever scheduled something knowing he wouldn't come because watching football? KELLY (34:13) hell yeah. Heck yeah. 'Cause 'cause my husband's like he's like, that sounds so fun. Do I have to go? Nope. That's kind of why I schedule it. And he's like, bye. So now Mindy Price (34:22) Nope. Listen, Natalie Pilkinton (34:25) Yeah. Mindy Price (34:25) I look at what sport is on and if I want to watch it with him. And if not, I'm like, I'm free, ladies, let's go. Like he's gonna be over here. I'm not KELLY (34:32) Yes. Yeah. Mindy Price (34:35) it and it does not bother him. So I Natalie, KELLY (34:37) Mm. No. Mindy Price (34:39) I totally jumped on you because you were saying no and I jumped in front of you. I apologize, but I was like, no, I know he's preoccupied, he's focused. I will schedule something with my friends. Natalie Pilkinton (34:49) Yeah, no, I'll do that, but I'm s like he w if it depends on the importance of the event, he would partake in family over football. KELLY (34:59) yeah. Yeah, I I I I think so. Yeah, I think so Natalie Pilkinton (34:59) I mean sound like Mindy Price (35:00) That's why we record. KELLY (35:03) too. I I I do. I think so too. And and like I said, it's it's just kind of one of those things where if it was something really, really important to me, yes, he would go. If it was something really, really important for him, I would go. And like you said, record. But do am I guilty of sometimes planning something knowing that's not something he'd want to do all the time. So, you know. Okay. Mindy Price (35:24) okay, so quick. Are men happier during football season? KELLY (35:29) Yes, if their team's winning. Natalie Pilkinton (35:30) Depends if their team's winning. KELLY (35:31) Yeah. Mindy Price (35:31) That's what I was gonna say. Women secretly enjoy it more than they admit, or or men, you know, depending on what side you're coming from. KELLY (35:41) I don't know. I I I I think I Natalie Pilkinton (35:41) No. Yeah. KELLY (35:43) think if you're the I think if you're the widow, the the the football widow, no, I don't think they I don't think they enjoy it. I think if they y yes, Mindy Price (35:49) Unless they're planning things. KELLY (35:52) unless they're planning things without them, then then they're fine. Mindy Price (35:55) Okay, fantasy football causes more arguments than actual football. Would say yes, just being a part of our group and this this Natalie Pilkinton (36:04) Discussions. Mindy Price (36:05) all of this, I I would say yes, not within our relationship. Natalie Pilkinton (36:08) But they did say since KELLY (36:08) More animate a more animated Natalie Pilkinton (36:10) I only KELLY (36:10) discussion. Natalie Pilkinton (36:11) only did it one time, we weren't we didn't have money. It was just family and friends, like just more family than anything. And so it was just for fun and therefore it wasn't as serious. So when the rules were changed or something happened, there was a little bit of bit dip bit, but it wasn't like there's money on the line, so it was different. I think that money on the line or like the big thing at the end, whoever the loser is, I think that changes things. So Mindy Price (36:35) Okay. KELLY (36:35) I'm always very I'm always in your face competitive. So yeah, I would think if I were doing it I think there'd be probably arguments or d or lively discussions. Mindy Price (36:42) Listen, the chat's fun. Okay. playoff game equals valid reason to decline plans. Natalie Pilkinton (36:49) Yeah. KELLY (36:51) Yeah. When you when you're Mindy Price (36:52) I mean, that's 100%. Travis Natalie Pilkinton (36:52) You see that you see that if you try and plan Mindy Price (36:54) wants to watch the playoff game live because then he'll have people like Kelly. That I'm just kidding, Kelly. He doesn't want to Natalie Pilkinton (37:00) Yeah. Mindy Price (37:01) risk it. So earlier when you were talking about you can't you have to wait for the break or whatever to say something, I'm so thankful for the pause button now. But playoff games, Natalie Pilkinton (37:10) Yeah, yeah, yeah. Mindy Price (37:11) he he wants those live. Okay. 30 minutes to sulk after a loss, then move on. What do we think? Do we sulk Natalie Pilkinton (37:17) Yes. Mindy Price (37:18) all day? Or you got 30 minutes, then move on. Natalie Pilkinton (37:21) I mean you can still be pissed but you don't need to project it. Like you can still KELLY (37:23) Yeah. Yeah. Natalie Pilkinton (37:25) be disappointed. KELLY (37:26) Yeah. You can still be disappointed. But but y I do get it though. I do get sometimes I have to stop watching some of Natalie Pilkinton (37:31) Yeah. KELLY (37:32) these games 'cause it stresses me out so bad. I'm like I I I d I just need to stop sports. Natalie Pilkinton (37:35) And then they start winning. KELLY (37:37) Yes, I need to stop sports altogether because I can't I can't stand it. So but Mindy Price (37:41) Well, it is crazy how you let you know, your adrenaline gets up there and all the dopamine's here and your team loses and then you're in a bad mood. It's like, no, it does stink, but move on. It's like but you have all this this faith and it's like, gosh, if we put so much faith in what we need to accomplish in our relationships and what we tackle as we do in getting into these sports, mm. But that's a totally another subject. I'm done, Kelly. You can say whatever you want. KELLY (38:03) Imagine. no, no. I I I get it. I I think there are so many different opinions. And and I do hope we get feedback from spouses, whether it's the men or the women who are anti football, pro football, the widows, the ones that join in, we would love to hear from all of you.
