Most People Quit Right Before It Gets Good—Here's Why

Mindy Price (00:00) Well, hello from the Big Easy. I am Mindy Price of Sugar Spice and Spirits, and I have my amazing co-host Kelly and Natalie with me today, not in New Orleans, but we are coming to you because I have an annual conference that I do every year and I'm speaking here actually speaking four times. And we always love to get together and celebrate. And as you know, typically, depending on the hour. Or depending on who's the guest, we will have a sip of the day that we are featuring before we get into our main dish. And because I'm coming to you live from New Orleans, I have, of course, my hurricane from Fat Tuesdays that I'm super excited about. What do you have, Kelly? KELLY (00:43) So I called my daughter, who is a fabulous bartender, and she made me one of her amazing Bloody Marys. I can't tell you what all else she put on it. She has this lovely garnish. it's amazing. It's super, super good. So yep, I'm drinking a Bloody Mary. Loving it. Yeah. How about you net? Mindy Price (01:00) It looks really good. Natalie (01:04) I got some hot tea. I've been struggling with some laryngitis and a few other things, but I put a little splash of, you know, 1835 peach Texas made was it bourbon or something? I don't know, but it's yummy and I added it to this to help with my cough and to help me feel better. So super excited to talk about New Orleans though and the big easy what's all going on. Mindy Price (01:26) Well, I'm excited to be here and I will tell you, here's the crazy thing. So I I I sleep with earplugs and I'm here in my hotel. I was I was to bed early. I went to an event, I d I think it was at the parlor, and it was nice, but I was in bed by 10 30, so I wasn't partying up or anything crazy in New Orleans like you might expect. And so I put my earplugs in and I'm like, man, I'm gonna get a great night's sleep. And about four o'clock in the morning, I hear an alarm go off. And I'm like, what in the world is that? But I'm so sleeping, like sleeping, sleeping, that I was like, maybe it's an Amber alert or silver alert. I know I should look, but it I I I was just really, really tired and my my brain wasn't processing. So I wake up this morning and I look on Facebook and one of my friends had posted tornado warning or tornado watch, tornado warning. Holy mackerel, there was a tornado. Didn't know, slept through it. I was just looking, there was some damage around here, but where we're at near the convention center, didn't have any. And that's literally as crazy as I've been in New Orleans, which means I've been kind of dull this trip. but I've been busy. I had, like I said, four speaking engagements. the National Apartment Association brought me in to do their 20 on the rise program, which is an emerging leaders program. If you've been in the industry 10 years or Less. They bring in 20 of these individuals that have to go through a rigorous application process. And then they team them up with mentors. So they say what do they want to learn? Who do they want to be? Do they want to be mentor have be mentored by a supplier partner, somebody in sales? Do they want somebody on the owner-operator side? Do they want somebody on the association side? And so they they say what they want to learn. And so these mentors get selected also. And they were in this group, and I had the honor of doing a two-hour workshop with them. It was all about about leadership. And I have to say, y'all've been around me whenever I've I'm teaching some of this stuff. The looks on their faces at first are like, we're going deep. And we're really having to dig in. It was fantastic. At first the room was a little bit comfortable and then they started warming up to each other. And then some of the activities that I had them to together, I really feel like they're going to have some of the best outcomes with this mentee mentor relationship and challenging themselves. I even had somebody come up to me that has been in the business for over 20 years saying, you challenged me to do more. Do you know as somebody that does this for a living, that is like the best thing that you can hear? knowing that you're making an impact. And so that has truly been the highlight of being here in New Orleans. And then I did a sales a sales session with three other people yesterday for our supplier partners and that went over really really well too we talked about having difficult conversations so again communication being my jam and the generational differences and how sometimes some generations get a bad rap and you don't fully understand them and you don't want to have a bias and and just a Assume, y'all know what I say when somebody assumes, but just assume that that person is that stereotypical because of their age. And so we also broke it down by years of experience related to the generations, which was neat. And then I've got two sessions tomorrow, two strategy sessions. One's about AI and the human advantage. And then the other one is about leadership and difficult conversations. So that is literally my update. What have y'all been up to? Natalie (04:51) So KELLY (04:51) my gosh. Well now like I said, Natalie's been sick. So she's been having to I'm sure she's been having to deal with that. I'm not I mean I'm not gonna speak her story and I'm still we so the weather you had last night is what we had on the coast yesterday. I mean it was flooding. We've had about almost seven inches of rain. not a lot of wind, but just a lot of rain. So literally my pool guy came out yesterday and I'm looking out there, my pool is green. From all the rain. So I'm trying to get the chemicals straight with that. So it's it's just been it it it's been really hectic these last few days. I think we'll just get some more rain, but for the most part, just trying to deal with Mother Nature and everything that she throws at you unexpectedly sometimes. Unfortunately, you know, it was a tropical depression that you know, where we are, you're directly east up the coast from us. So that's why we sent you that message said, Hey, it's coming. And obviously it did. We didn't have any tornadoes that I know of, but we had some we had some deep water. So yes, we I've been dealing with that for the last couple of days. So but it's looks like it's over because it's beautiful outside now. Very hot and humid, but it's great outside. Yeah. Mindy Price (05:59) Yeah. What about for you, Nat? Natalie (06:01) So yeah, dealing with the weather, of course, the kid went off to church camp and you have that fear, especially in Texas, you know, after the last year's horrific church camp experience for those Texas families that sent their kids to camp. You know, you you have faith and you try and, you know, pack that fear away. But it is one of those things that's like, you know, hedge of a protection over our kids. And they were already talking about their plan, like their weather plan and, you know, I'm sure they're just running their drills and knew what to do exactly versus what's happened in the past. But it did also bring to mind when I was a kid and was off at church camp, we were in I was in West Texas and I was in Alpine and we had flash flooding out there. And when I was there, there was a flash flood that came through and they had the girls side of the camp and the boys side of the camp. And the boys side of the camp got washed away. They couldn't even get to them. So they had to helicopter to them to get them to get back and out and everything. So it was one of those just flashbacks like things you forget and That you you pack down. And I'm like, well, I but my camp wasn't three days. My camp was like a week. And I worked so hard to get to that. It was through Girl Scouts, whoever sold the most Girl Scout cookies. And I tell you, every day I was hustling, I was door knocking and and talking to people, and I was really working to sell cookies, so much so that Since my grade got out before some of the older girls, they complained that we couldn't start selling till later because I was selling too much before. So it was it's funny how Yeah. Mindy Price (07:37) Here's a question for you. What day are you not hustling? Like you just said that I'm like every day she's hustling, you know, every day I'm hustling. Natalie (07:45) Costa Rica, Costa Rica, I am plugged. That was so much fun. I enjoyed that. But talking about hustling. Mindy Price (07:49) Yeah. Well, before you do that, on the hustling topic, because you just made me think of something. So yesterday's keynote speaker was Daymond John. And he was, gosh, he was just fantastic. If you don't know his background and his upbringing, and he showed some pictures of how he was just so dapper the way he was dressed, even as a young guy and a little one. And then his mom teaching him how to sew and to make the the first hats that he made, and whenever he just how he hustled, and he talked about the hustle that you have to have. And of course he talked about the shark tanks and just the way that he makes fun of all these people that he has huge respect for. It was it was really neat and it was really motivating. But you talking about that hustle literally The ones that typically make it are not the ones sitting on the sidelines vacationing. It may look like a vacation. You know, when we had Cory Camerdiner on and his wife, Milly and she was like, He's by the pool and he's making a call and he's still making money. That was just a tiny piece of it because he's nonstop, always going. But oftentimes people picture success as in it comes easy and you're just laid back. They don't see everything else that's happening behind and you know, behind all of it. And so that was really. neat getting to listen to Daymond and he made it fun and interesting. He played music throughout time and he talked about some of the people that he ran with and he he talked about the the FUBU and how it came about and then how the there was a whole thing and we won't go into it with the gap that ran an advertising campaign and they didn't realize that their main person was wearing a FUBU hat and it just blew up and it was just a crazy story to hear all of it. So if you ever get the chance to go and see Daymond John speak or just look up his story and how that came to be such a big company. That was that was really cool. And how much he gives back and how much he's just aware that everybody Just needs to be a good human. You want to be kind and you don't want to turn people away. And then today we got to see Nicole Kidman. And she was interviewed by Bill Ransick, who is the host of the event for us. And you just talk about somebody that walks into a room and you feel like they are a kind person. And he'd mentioned that his wife had interviewed her many times on the red carpet and said that was his her favorite person because it just felt like talking to a friend. And as she was telling her story, it just seemed so relaxed. But one of the things that she said that really stood out to me, she said, I don't see myself as a movie star. I see I I I wish I could remember her exact words, but she said, I'm working in film or I'm It was something like that. Like she just you're always working. And she's got her own production company now. She's still doing so much acting, but it is a drive and a hustle every day. And she says she still feels she started when she was 14 years old and she still feels excited and happy and motivated when she gets up because she loves what she does. And she's having a birthday in two days. She's turning fifty-nine. The woman doesn't look a day over, you know. KELLY (10:41) We're going to Mindy Price (10:56) in her forties. and it was just it was neat to hear that. But the theme is when you see all of these uberly successful people, it is a grind. It is a hustle. And one of the guys in the leadership program, we had the chair come in prior to me speaking and he asked, he said, how do you balance it all, you know, between work, life, and, you know, family. And he gave his answer. And so I made sure in the end to come back and say, you have to make the moments matter. And we've all worked in super stressful positions where we've been away and that is a sacrifice. Like how much do you want to make it? Like what is your ver version of success? And success looks different for many, many people. But if it's like that whole work drive and that's something that fulfills you, I mean that's something that fulfills me. And so I said make the moments count when you're with your family. And she talked about how having her two daughters and constantly being on, but remembering when she gets home and just really focusing on that family time. And I think that's super important. And Natalie, you're the There is not I don't think you shut off. Like you said, you did in Costa Rica, but also there are times I'll call you, you're at dinner with the family, you're at soccer practice, you're taking them to do something fun, and you do make the most out of it. And you're a unique situation for our group because you had a child later on. You had your your other kids, but you have we you've nicknamed named him your bonus baby. And just even dealing with what you were dealing with with him. And I don't know if you want to share it about church camp. Like that was that was something that was different. And I can imagine that was also tearing you apart. Yeah. Natalie (12:30) Yeah, I think, you know, being from Gen X, so this is kind of that Gen X conversation. first I wanna go back I had to look up who Bill Rancic was because I was like, wait a minute, was he like a survivor or something? He was from the first show of Trump when he did The Apprentice and all that. So I I figured that out. KELLY (12:32) Mm. Mindy Price (12:47) And the bachelor. The bachelor right? No, not the bachelor. He went on the bachelor. Was he on the bachelor? I don't think so. Natalie (12:51) No? Did he I don't know. He could have, but I was like, I know that name, Bill Rancic. So he he did do that. So anyway, I don't know what all he did, but I had I knew I knew the name and I couldn't place, so I had to look it up and see. So yeah, so as you know, everything's going on with with life and the hurricane in camp or the tropical storm in camp and so forth. My little dude really hasn't stayed away from us. He's if he goes somewhere, he's going to family, or he's going to his father's home, or he's going to his older sister's apartment. but it's always with family. Like he stays at my cousin's house down south, who's like my sister. And he had to stay three nights away. And his big thing is, Mom, can you tuck me in? That's where we spend a lot of our time. We read the Bible, we scroll TikTok, or we do, you know, different things. And he he cried first night. Second night he still cried. And they called me the second night and they were like, we just want to let you know what's going on. And No, I'm starting to s see since I because I posted on Facebook. I'm like, how are you, how are you navigating these waters in today's society with today? Like, because you you don't know who to trust and who to let your kids sleep over with and and where to go and what to do and all that, but you still need to raise men. And one of my friends sent me like the nanny, Joe, the lady who's the nanny who would go into the family's homes and wrapper man and teach you how to raise your kids, all that. She's coming out that we're enabling our kids so much that we are disabling them. Like they don't know how to cut their food. They don't know how to cook. They don't know how to, you know, start the dishwasher. They don't know personal hygiene. They don't know how to brush with a non-electric toothbrush. They don't know how to do these things because we're not taking the time to to sit there and share with our kids how to do this. So The counselor said he's fine. He's got lots of support. You know, I think it was like a 16-bed cabin. So everybody's in there. Everybody knows your business. And I'm like, no, he needs to push through. He needs to figure it out. So he that was the one reason why he said he wouldn't want to go back is because he'd have to have to spend the night again. But then he also stated that he didn't like like one of the kids. I'm like, but that's also learning how to go through things. Like, did he really try and hit you in the face with the ball? Maybe he did. But you need to know how to deal with people like that. KELLY (14:47) Natalie (15:14) You need to know how to handle bullies. You need to know how to handle things. And he did tell his camp counselor, but how do you stand up for yourself as a young man? So, like all these questions and all these things, because you are going to be put in those situations. And it kind of goes with that communication and tough conversations that you'll be talking on. But yeah, he pushed through. He's a trooper trooper. So we're super proud of him. He did it. He'll be going back next year. But when I came by one of somebody in the neighborhood was having a lemonade stand. So I pulled up to the house, we bought some lemonade, and it's his little buddy. And because she saw my post, she's like, Yeah, we're we're gonna need to swap kids, you know, like have them sleep over and do that. Because we as a society have done this so much that it's like I see to my older kids things that they should know how to do that they don't do. So it's how do we How do we empower our kids, not enable? How do we empower our kids to be able to handle today's work, to to handle looking for a job, paying bills? Like Marley dropped out of all her classes, like her A classes. She's like, I'm not gonna run off to college just yet. I don't need to stress myself out. She took home ec or whatever classes she took or electives. Set her up for success. She had tough conversations with her boyfriend already. If the family comes and needs to do anything, she's had tough conversations with us. She's like set herself up and she is set because of that class, like the home at class. Where you do your things, where you balance a checkbook. How do you apply for a credit? How do you do this? Why would you need credit? So yeah, little man did good, but our society needs to step up. KELLY (16:41) Mm-hmm. Mindy Price (16:52) Do you y'all remember when that was a a class that was not an elective? Like that was a class that you had to take. It was part of the curriculum that you had to learn. Did y'all have to take care of the egg? Did y'all have to, you know, the egg that you had to take care of? KELLY (17:06) Yeah, that was that was your baby. And if you cracked it, you're pff Yeah. Natalie (17:07) Not a sack of flour. Mindy Price (17:11) had a stack of flowers? Natalie (17:11) had the crying baby the crying baby. So she had the actual digital baby that cried and you had to feed and you had to change. She failed. I don't know if I dropped the kid or something, but she ended up failing the product because one time she didn't do something and it was during my watch. I don't know. Grandma fell at that. If it was a real baby, that baby would have been fine. That's all I'm saying. Mindy Price (17:37) Well, I'm glad that he's home and I like I like that y'all are gonna, you know, swap kids and hopefully they become really good friends and can get used to that. You made me think I like, yeah. I don't I don't know how to add any value. But then my mind started going and I imagined like a calendar or like a you know how some people will do a vision board at the beginning of the year and all these little bucket list things you want to do or or like a calendar of looking up and you can use AI for this. What are we things we take for granted? Like you mentioned so many of them, balancing a checkbook, but certain things to cook, easy meals, and then putting them on the calendar, not every day, making it seem easy, natural, something you look forward to, but lessons that you could teach and different things that you just don't realize that we're not equipping them with that. I I can look back my 19 year old now. He is surprising me how much he is trying to do but there are certain things where I'm like, I I can't believe I did that for you. Like I should teach you how to do that. And he still lives at home right now while he's doing school and working. And I'm so happy and I'm not ready to be an empty nester yet. But there are things, I'm even thinking about this with me for his age. I'm gonna go in and I'm gonna chat with my little AI friend, Chatty, and just say, Hey, here's all the things. What have I missed? Because he has the, you know, he's still there. I can try. And then that of course builds those moments that are together too. But that might be something neat. You could do Natalie. Natalie (19:00) walked into the office at Home Rock with Cory and Milly and that smelled like burnt popcorn. One of their little kids used the microwave and Milly's like, I can't believe he did this. Like, I don't even let him cook. I was like, Girl, let the boy cook. Let him burn it. Let him live. Let him figure it out, 'cause you don't want to enable him and his future wife will thank you. She was like, Okay, I said, take it from me. I got some olders that they can cook now, but Paxton cooks more than Nathan, which doesn't say much, but yeah. KELLY (19:29) Yeah, I I had the same I had the same experience. My my little bonus granddaughter Taya they spent the night she and Macy, my daughter spent the night one night, and Taya decided she wanted to make Macy some breakfast, so she got just some of the frozen biscuits, not not the can but the the bag and she didn't realize but she learned she put them on the plate in the microwave and set the microwave for fifteen minutes. Of course I'm in the bed and all of a sudden I smell something Mindy Price (19:30) No, but I go ahead. KELLY (19:59) And then I hear the the the alarm go off and I'm like, what's going on? And and of course Macy says, It I said, is there a fire? She goes, it's Taya. And I thought, I said, Taya's on fire. She goes, No. Anyway, they look like little black hockey pucks, obviously. And of course what I did looking back after what you say, you you have to let them understand. growing up, my step my one of my I think my stepson put tin foil in the microwave. And we had to actually buy a new microwave because that fried it so bad and you never could get the smell out. But when you say you have to let them make those mistakes, you do because what I did was then I got onto Macy and I said, Did you not see that she was over there trying to cook? Well no, I had my eyes closed. I'm like, she's twenty feet away from you And I s you know, and at some point I'm like, she could have started a fire, which she didn't, thank goodness. But you're right, she had to learn. It was no harm, no foul. But it it was it scared poor her poor tay to death because she opened up and just smoke was billowing out of the microwave. And she's seven, but you know, her heart was in the right place. She wanted to try and make breakfast. And you're right, it's it's one of those things where, and I can I can attribute this to my patients when years ago when I when I was treating spinal cord patients and they would try to either put their shoes on, put their socks on, things that they couldn't do because they had limited movement in their hands and their legs. And it would just sometimes take forever. And we all know that when we tell our kids, you know, put your shoes and socks on and they're sitting in there trying to tie their shoe and like, my gosh, just let me do it. Because we're so short and limited on time that we don't give them the time to experience and complete a task because we're always trying to move to the next three tasks ahead of it. And so we don't give them the opportunity to try and figure it out for themselves, whether it's tying their shoes or cooking or or what what have you. I know when I was at your house the other day, Mindy, your youngest came through and was trying to do something and your Travis, your husband said, Do you need help? He goes, No, I got this. Well, he did end up needing help, but he took the bull by the horns. I think it was working on the car on his on his car or something. But it it's just you've got those that are willing to take that initiative. And you got those that that will literally sit there and wait until you get frustrated and and make that move and say, okay, look, let me help you. I walked in one day and my stepdaughter, she her washing machine was making a funny noise. And I walked in literally her washing machine was torn apart in the middle of the floor and she had YouTube going. And she says, She's why am I going to call a a repair man when I can look at it and figure it out myself. And she did. She figured it out herself. And it cost her maybe $15 to go buy a new part. But she and me, I'd be like, hello, repair man bring just bring me a new washer. It's okay. Just bring just bring me a new one. You know, so but i everyone's different. But you're right. You have to let them figure it out for themselves. And I mean that that's a good point because sometimes I don't have the patience. I just like just let me do it. And that's not always the best thing. So my bad. Natalie (23:20) So let's let's get back to New Orleans because I didn't even go Okay, one other thing I wanted to cover, and then I want to get back to my New Orleans story. There's a talking about everything we have going on, talking about Daymond, talking about the hustle. You really have to constantly be stuffing your pipe. You have to be, especially if you're in sales, you gotta be having conversations. You gotta be documenting, you gotta be utilizing your CRM. You have to be putting them on drip campaigns. You need to be nurturing, you need to put birthdays and anniversaries in. Like all of those things matter. I have, I think I have like seven listings right now. And then I had two verbals, one signed a contract, I'll get on Monday. And then Another one, they said they're gonna wait a month or two because they talked to an attorney, they got a few things they got to work out. but these are people that I've I've had conversations with. They don't just show up one day and and they do show up one day and hey Natalie, can I work with you? But it's that nurture campaign, it's that hustle, it's that grind, it's I'm up at six a.m. We're editing clips, I'm making sure that I didn't forget to post something, making sure that I'm dotting my I's and crossing my T's. And no, I'm not Mindy Price (24:28) That's why I have to get up early to make sure you are Natalie (24:33) babysit Natalie. and no, I am I am forgetting stuff. There's that's why we're looking to hire an assistant to help us with the podcast because there's so much going on, but it's just constantly having conversations and making things happen and and truly engaging with people and learning and moving forward. So that's all I wanted to say. It's a hustle compassion. Yeah. Cheers to that. Mindy Price (24:54) Well that's a good one. A cheers to that. If it's not just because I want to have a sip, but cheers to that. Natalie (25:00) But it's something you're passionate about, right? Mindy, you love speaking, you love presenting, you love helping people learn and be better and holding them accountable and moving forward, that mentoring, that coaching, that growth. Kelly, you're all about you know nurturing, helping, learning, making helping people adapt, be better, get healthier, and coming up with new ways to do things and and be a part of that. I think I think all of that. We're innate helpers and we really like to see people do better and thrive and succeed. So yeah, hustle, hustle. Don't, don't make excuses. If you catch yourself like people can't even make 10 calls these days. It's like, did you make your calls? What do you mean I didn't have time? What do you mean you didn't have time? You make the time. Just like you get up in the morning, you read your Bible for 15 minutes, or you have that alone time or that meditation or whatever. You're intentional with your time. You go to the gym, you're intentional with your time. You block in 10 calls. It could take you ten minutes to make those ten calls or it could take you an hour because you make some connections, which is exactly what you wanna do. So every day I'm hustling, hustling, hustling. So Mindy Price (26:09) And I just want to say I love the fact that you have seven listings, two other things that are happening, and then the other things that you said, but it's taken, I mean, you're you've been building it up and now it's you're starting to see it. And some people just want it right now, right now, right now. And if you don't have the pipeline, if you're not building it, it's you know, what is the field of dreams? If you build it, they will come. If you work it, it will happen. Daymond also talked about how many businesses stop. They run into failure and they think, well, that's it. I've tr tried and thrown in the towel. And then he talked about how many entrepreneurs have failed, but then they just keep trying and eventually something hits. But it's the fact that you keep going. You figure out what didn't go right, you adjust, and you move forward. Natalie (26:51) And I forgot to mention I grabbed a builder account, got three listings off this builder account for a close out neighborhood. And they have other neighborhoods, so there's potential. Prove myself, do what I can, submitting a marketing plan and working the leads and getting it closed out quickly, there's more opportunity. So yeah, it's it's just working, you know. KELLY (27:11) That's awesome. Mindy Price (27:12) It's working. And Kelly, you recently launched a new website for your company. You completely rebranded. That was no small feat. KELLY (27:19) Yeah, yeah, no. I met I met with a gentleman that we met through some of our connections at with Steve Rozenberg and had him look at my look at my website and what it was about and he basically told me, you know, w with the type of audience that you're marketing to and the type of demographic that you're trying to, you know, reach out to and connect with, you're you know, he's your colors are too harsh, it's this that it's not very inviting, it's it's kinda hard on the eyes And so I told my team, I said, guess what? We're fixing to be, we're fixing to look totally different. And we did. We we completely it took me forever because I'm not, I'm not, you know, you know me. I'm not I'm not the I'm not very tech savvy. but we every day we get so many contacts that come in and reach out to us just from our from our website. So yeah, it's it's it's really, really huge. Cause we our ever other website was just basically Here's who we are, here's what we do. There were no links, there were no contact us. I mean, but now it it's just a steady flow of you know inquiries and questions. So it's definitely, you know, brought in brought in some good, some good business, some good opportunities, some good networking and everything. So yeah, you you constantly have to be keeping up with the hustle. You have to keep hustling because if not, you're gonna you're gonna get behind. And talking about the failures, you know, I remember when I was younger and I lived up in Lubbock. at one point my my mom and my father had I think six different businesses. All you know, we had we had a a furniture store, we had a mattress store, we had a interior design store, and then we also had a a club and a and a restaurant. And and it was just never, you know, it was never exactly what my dad wanted to do. And so finally we moved down here. And it wouldn't until my dad was fifty something years old that he and I sat there and and put together the company that we've got now, twenty eight years later, and you know, you you file he finally found that something that made him happy that he could be successful at, that he could pass on to his family. And so yeah, it was it made a huge it made a huge difference. And now, you know, now it's on me to continue to, you know, to push it forward and and help everyone out there. But Yeah, it's just it's a never it's a never ending hustle. And when you get those when you get those new referrals and those new contacts, it's just it just it's such a great feeling. It just makes you feel so accomplished. So yeah, yeah, I definitely have to keep up with with the Jones not with the Joneses, but just with the with the game of of knowing what's out there and the challenges, because I mean you two are, you know, nine, ten years younger than me and You know, and I'm like, I'm tired, I'm ready to relax and kick back. But you guys motivate me because I see you guys you guys are always w going way faster than me. I mean, I y'all are always scampering and I'm like, I'm just kinda moseying along, you know, but when those things except when I drive yes, totally different when I drive. but you guys encourage me and inspire me to not want to just coast. Mindy Price (30:24) Except when you drive. 'Cause when you drive you're fine. KELLY (30:38) Because my company was very, very successful and and I was like, we're doing great. But then I realized were we really working up to our potential and were we really reaching out and helping everyone that we could help? So at the end of the day, we have now started helping so many more so many more people that the the changing, the the rebranding made a huge difference. And part of that was the inspiration from being with you guys and and just kind of sometimes sitting back and watching The speed, you guys are always at lightning speed. It's always y'all like just sh when you're going. And yeah, it's it's it's amazing. It's amazing. So which is one of the reasons why Mindy's in New Orleans at at this, you know, at this time, because she's doing, you know, she's not there as as a as a patron. She's there as a teacher, leader, mentor, and just listening to you, it sounds like it's been just a huge success. So I that kudos to you. Cheers to you. That's that's awesome. I don't want to disappoint people, but I have agent spots underneath me. No. I should know more Spanish because, you know, my mom being from Panama, but that's a whole nother story. So and Natalie, I know whenever you moved over to Home Rock, and I don't know how much you can talk about it, but the comp the prior brokerage that you were with, there were so many more Natalie (32:19) I see. KELLY (32:20) Just like. Mindy Price (32:35) I may get the terminology incorrect, but incentives for you to join over there not only was the potential for the opportunity to make money, but as well as the type of training and just everything that you do. I know you felt like it was a lot more hands on. So bringing other people in, you feel very confident about it. And I'll never forget whenever you called me and you were almost in tears, you're like, I found it. I found my home. I have been looking for this. I've been in this business for so long and I finally found my home. And what an amazing feeling that is. Natalie (33:07) Yeah, really good. I mean, when you like where you work, right? That's how we're we're sitting here on the podcast. We loved each other so much. We said, Hey, why don't we intentionally get together and have a drink and just shoot the breeze and interview people and have fun, which is how this came about. Like do what you love and love what you do. So yeah, I'm at home at home rock. If you want to be at home at home rock, Mindy Price (33:27) Give her a call. And I know we said we talk about New Orleans, but also timeliness. there's this little game that's going on right now, and you all might live in that city-ish area that's getting a lot of publicity for it and things are happening all over the country. But Nat, I think there was something you wanted to talk about. Natalie (33:48) Yeah, so FIFA, which we're not big soccer people, but I tell you what I am because my little one's playing, so I'm I'm getting all into it because my boys watch it all the time. But the World Cup is here. So I don't know if you guys have been inundated, but there's a guy, Fred, Freddie, he came, flew into Atlanta and he drove from Atlanta. And the the one thing I can say I love about foreigners, when they travel, they travel. They don't just do a week, they take they take time and they go. So They tra they're traveling across, you know, staying for months, staying for weeks on end of to to come to the United States and get the experience. But he started in Flor started in Atlanta and drove all the way down to to Houston. And through the process, he was just posting where he was going. He stopped at Waffle House at one AM to have the experience. He went to Buc-ees He went to he stopped in New Orleans to see what that was about because he drove along the coast and he is just having the time of his life. He got invited by Ella Langley to go to one of his concerts. Closest place is Oklahoma. So he's gonna meet her. So now he's an Ella Langley fella. so like he got he went to NASA down here in Houston. Like they gave him the full NASA experience. he the Texans. So JJ Watt set him up in like a hotel. And had a gift basket for him and his like two mates that he's traveling with. And like they he's met the governors like of every state he's going through. He's almost like a foreigner ambassador for the rest of the world. And everybody's just truly enjoying the journey. The Scots are up in Boston. The Bostonians want to keep the Scots because they're having so much fun. They're seeing in, you know, sweet home or sweet Caroline. Like they're doing all this stuff. They're just like, Engaged everywhere they go. And then you see them going to the Fort Stockton rodeo, watching the you know, longhorns come down like from the cattle yard, how they they walk them. And they're like, guys, this is real. This is real. They're going into Costco. I'm a European. I'm overwhelmed. This is bigger than Walmart. I don't even, I don't even know what to do. They're trying Olive Garden, the best Italian food ever. They are like truly embracing this FIFA World Cup. Foreigner travel experience and it is so much fun. If you guys get a chance to scroll and watch the experiences, a lot of the Europeans are saying we've been lied to. Like people are so friendly, the food is so good, people are awesome. You know, the J Japanese, Japan came in and gave all their people who had Japan gear on bags to clean up. They cleaned up the stadium, they cleaned up the locker room, so they're leading by example. And showing everyone else in the world how to be clean, decent people, which it's thankful we have somebody that can show all that because the rest of us need help with it. And it's the true immersion, you know, they're really getting into it and enjoying the process. And it's just so much fun to watch the whole experience from trying biscuits and gravy to different things. Like Follow on TikTok or X or wherever you're at, you can catch, you can catch some of these FIFA World Cup experience people or foreigners that that are coming over and experiencing true American life and they're getting embraced, they're getting loved on, they're getting and it it's a true reflection that we can all really get along if we just cut out all the bull crap and just get down to it. So I don't know. I'm enjoying it. KELLY (37:21) Yeah, just we did Mindy Price (37:22) You just gave me something to scroll because now I mean I haven't been following any of this. I have not had time at all to spend too much you know, really anything on social media. So I will definitely have to look forward to seeing that. KELLY (37:35) Yeah, I mean and I Yeah, well no, it's it's nice when you see people just be decent human beings. You know, I I mean i I I watch Channel 13 and Tom Abrams and them at at the at at the end of of his cat newscast every night, he at last thing he says before he signs off is be kind to one another. That I mean, that's such a simple phrase. Natalie (37:36) It's like our whole Texas episode. KELLY (38:04) But it it has so much meaning and just so much you can expand on it so much. And you know, you, Mindy, are in a different are in a different town. New Orleans is very different than Houston. You know, it's it's got its culture, Houston's got its culture, it's got its dangers, Houston's got its dangers. But yet you want to be able to go out and experience. And so when peop when foreigners come in to it from a totally different country, then absolutely you want them to have just the best experience and go back and and have something nice. to say about America the American people and and how they were treated and everything. So I'm glad that I'm glad they're having, you know, great experience. I'm sure they're gonna, you know, s have a little stumbling block here and there, but hopefully it's not anything that's too major. But it's it's nice to see that, you know, that they are being treated as w I mean, you know, hey, what what can I do to get Ella Langley to say, hey, come up and visit me I mean, I mean, tell me Ella, what can I do? So Natalie (39:02) Yeah, I love Miss Ella KELLY (39:03) Yeah, but that's good. I th I I hadn't really been doing much following. I mean, I watched the the game yesterday where against Portugal, which Portugal is the powerhouse, and the little guy, my God, he kicked the ball from half court and I don't I don't know the terminology, from half the field and it came up. I mean that guy bumped it with his head, I mean it flew into the the the net and I mean the stands went crazy. I was like, my god, how do you d it was Perfect, it was beautiful. It was like, you know, there's I I I can see how you can get sucked into it 'cause it was it was awesome. It was it was amazing. So yeah, lots lots of good things happening right now because of FIFA. Mindy Price (39:47) question. Like so as we're talking and I yeah, hear you say the word foreigners, I'm like, I don't think I like that word. I wouldn't want to be called that in another country. So what and I I'm curious your thoughts 'cause I'm like a a tourist or somebody from another country. I think that's a lot more friendly. Am I is it just me? KELLY (40:04) picture tourists as being dorks. I'm sorry. I mean you know I mean just you can always usually you can s you can spot a tourist sometimes. You know they've got their bag and their camera and they're I mean they just look like dorks. I mean I dork I'll I'll admit I'm a dork when I go someplace. But so I I don't know. Maybe you're right. Maybe maybe foreigners not not the best but I don't know if tourist maybe just Mindy Price (40:07) Okay. Natalie (40:11) Mm-hmm. But No, all the headlines say foreigners. They're foreigners. They're not from here. Mindy Price (40:36) I don't like it. I'm just gonna say it. I like thinking you know, somebody from another country or something. Or just, you know, somebody visiting from another country. Well. I don't like it. I'm gonna have to look it up. Natalie (40:38) And what would you call him? Tourist? For KELLY (40:46) Yeah. A visitor. Yeah. Natalie (40:50) Yeah. Well, everywhere that's posting about it, they they're they're foreigners here to visit, you know, FIFA. They're here for the World Cup. So it's not that connotation. The connotation comes from people who are like ICE or trying to make it more than what it is. They're they're international travelers that are here to enjoy the the area, so KELLY (41:04) Yeah. Mindy Price (41:09) I like international traveler. Very good, Natalie. It it kind of sounds a little more distinguished and we're welcoming them into our country. So KELLY (41:13) That I like that. Yeah. Natalie (41:20) I don't know. We need to go wherever the Scots are playing. So that's what we gotta do. Where the Scots, like if the Scots come to Houston and play, we need to go where they are because their travel brigade is like the Texans, like the on the road Texans crew. Like they are phenomenal and so good. So that's where where we need to go, ladies. I'm just saying. So hopefully they make it. Mindy Price (41:40) Hey, we've got a lot of fans in Ireland and that's not too far off and they're super fun as well. So we can get, you know, wherever they are and have another piece of our following from Scotland. Natalie (41:52) Yeah, Ireland said that we could keep the Scots the Scots 'cause they're their cousins and they'll let stay at our house a little longer. So KELLY (41:52) So we Well and and speaking of the traveling Texans, you know, I'm I'm part of a I'm part of a Texans tailgating crew, the battle wagon crew, but the traveling Texans are totally separate. Now anytime we go someplace, they're always going and this year the Texans are gonna be playing in I think Paris. And so we were Paris or London, one of those, and so we were looking to to possibly go to that game. But there's a certain wedding in October that I'm going to that happens to fall that same weekend, so we're not gonna go. But we were trying to go to the Texans and then get the Celine Dion concert going in there and and all that stuff, but but yeah, we have we have a more important engagement going on that weekend. So but but yeah, it is it is fun. And when you're right, when you when you travel as a group, whether you're the Scots coming here or the Irish coming here or whatever, I I think it's more fun and you get more attention. but but yeah, I mean I I think when you when you get a group and you go someplace and I'm glad I'm glad that they're getting some good positive and fun attention. So hopefully that this World Cup is going to bring a lot of the country together. I mean it's it's almost like you know w you see countries who are like always in such disagreement and they're actually fighting, but when you see the Olympics come together. The athlete they're they're there as athletes. They're there as they have a common group, a common ground. They're yes, it's a competition, but they they're not fighting. I mean, and it's just when you bring it together and it'd be nice if it could be if let me untie my tongue. If it could be brought together better because, you know, FIFA, this World Cup is way bigger than the Olympics. I mean, it you've got scattered out all over the the country and we're just fortunate to have them here in Houston and it it's you know, it's g it's a it's doing good for Houston, but I think it's doing a lot of a lot of good things for, you know, I mean, I've never been a big soccer fan, but seeing everything that's going on now, it's it's it is e it's easy to get sucked in a little bit. So it's been pretty good. Natalie (44:08) You know Mindy Price (44:08) I think Travis is happy that I'm traveling because he used to play soccer and he's getting to watch all the games and he's super excited and it's Father's Day weekend coming up. So of course, if that's what he wants to do, I'll watch the games with him. But Nat, I don't know if there's anything else you wanted to say on this because I actually have a really fun event that I'm having to take off to here in a minute. Natalie (44:29) Yeah, I want to say that the one thing that I find interesting is that the the people who are commenting, they're like, I can walk outside at dark and not feel scared. I can do this and not do that. Like I don't feel like there's not people on the corner threatening me. Like the security level that they feel here in the States, now they're probably in more secure places, but it's pretty interesting to hear and see that perspective as well, just the safety factors. So one final thought. Huh? Mindy Price (44:56) Yeah, there are some pockets. There are some pockets, yeah. Natalie (44:59) yeah. We got our crooks. one final thought too is Daniel Boone was part of the biggest land purchase and he is my great grandfather like eight times. So like eight eight or whatever. So I learned that when I was in Louisiana. Well, I'm sure I learned it in school, but I didn't know he was my great grandfather by then. but we did the historic tour and all that in New Orleans, and that's where I learned. I'm like, wow, that's why I like real estate. It's in the blood, it's in the genes. So KELLY (45:27) There you go. But I and I know I know we're running out of time. and Mindy's got to got to be somewhere so but and we always do this. We always get off on these tangents of these really great conversations, but but that that's what it's about. That that's what this is about. This is this is we are unscripted, we are fly by the seat of our pants a lot of times. but I do think maybe we follow up with another podcast about some of the great things in New Orleans because I you know, I'm I've got tons of family from Louisiana. I love New Orleans to a point. but yeah, I think, you know, 'cause I was like wanted to talk about all these really cool things that I know about New Orleans. I know since you're there, Mindy. and then Natalie's got some great things to say. So, you know, we may end up doing a totally different podcast about some of the really cool cities that each of us have gone to that maybe impacted us. And whatever, but but yeah, I I I I I do hate that we didn't get to hit on hit on the New Orleans topic a little bit because I know we had a lot of great things to say, but that's just another another another topic for another day, but that'd be great. Mindy Price (46:36) I think having a I think having a New Orleans episode specific to it would be fantastic because why I have to run, two reasons. I'm getting ready to meet one of my old clients that's thinking about bringing me in for their management conference. We're going to the Erin Rose. If you ever come to New Orleans, it's a Irish bar. Hey friends, our Ireland friends. And it has a frozen Irish coffee. KELLY (46:57) What? Mindy Price (47:03) I had no idea how amazing a frozen Irish coffee was until Chelsea Kneeland a dear friend of mine, introduced me to it. Chelsea, thank you, thank you, thank you for the introduction. And so I'm taking Brooke over there. We're gonna go have a frozen Irish coffee together, which is great because it's so hot and humid here right now. Hoping and praying it's not raining outside right now. And then guess who I you're never gonna guess who I'm going to see in concert that's part of this conference that we're at right now. Take a guess. KELLY (47:36) Is what is it rock? Is it country? Is it Mindy Price (47:40) Flo rider. Yep, get it. KELLY (47:43) Yep, saw him. He's amazing. I saw I saw Flo Rida in at the House of Blues in Houston. Great show. He was he was there with some other some other folks. But yeah, it great, great show. Kinda so it kinda reminds me of, you know, our our our trip to New Orleans when we ended up backstage with coolin' the gang. I mean I what'd I say? Yeah, no, I'm at Las Vegas. Mindy Price (48:04) Las Vegas. New Orleans, but last Natalie (48:10) It's not. KELLY (48:11) Yeah, when we went when we went to Las Vegas and ended up backstage with Cool in the Gang. And and first of all, y'all when we first went out there, y you didn't know who Cool In the Gang was. I had to sing celebration. yes, I know who that is. And then of all things, we ended up you know, we ended up backstage at the concert with them. So, huh? Mindy Price (48:28) We met the whole family. We met the whole family. KELLY (48:33) We did. And it started at the airport in Houston with the little guy in the in the gold track suit. Mindy Price (48:39) this guy, he we were like, he's going to New Orleans I mean, Las Vegas. Now I'm doing it. Super fun. We see him and I'm like, Kelly, let's just Let's just go talk to him. So we go talk to him and he's like he's like telling us who he is and he's got this story. Like it's an over-the-top story of who he was. And we're like, okay, you know, whatever. Super nice guy. And so we leave. We're like, hey, it was nice meeting you, blah, blah, blah. And the next thing we know, we're backstage. He's backstage. He's like, hey. We're like, hey, thought you were gonna be on stage. You meant you were backstage. KELLY (49:12) Yeah, yeah, it was funny because we actually got we actually got backstage before he did. So when he walked back there, he looked at me like, Hey it was like, What the heck? So yeah, that was that was that was a fun night. Mindy Price (49:26) So I am going to go and have fun. This is my one free day. I wasn't speaking today. So my free day that I'm going to get to go and meet some people and then go to see Flo Rida tonight. And then I've got my speaking tomorrow and then we got a big Father's Day weekend plan.
