FIFA Visitors Reveal What Shocked Them Most About America
Sugar, Spice & Spirits Podcast · Episode 51 · Natalie Pilkinton, Mindy Price & Kelly Williams · 35 min
The hosts talk about what international FIFA visitors have loved most - and been most shocked by - about visiting America.
Natalie (00:00)
Hey guys and welcome to this episode of Sugar Spice and Spirits. We're talking 250, 250 at the American birthday, the semiciquinal. I think that's the way it goes. Semi equincennial.
KELLY (00:15)
Quin quin
quincent Quincentennial? Qu I don't know. Two five. There you go. That's it.
Natalie (00:19)
Yeah yeah. Semi quincentennial. Yeah.
Mindy Price (00:23)
Happy birthday!
Natalie (00:27)
Yeah, so we're talking the American Birthday 250 and FIFA World Cup with all these people experiencing the greatness of America. We got Red, White, and Boozy, we got America, we've got the glitter gang and all that other stuff. So we're here to have a little bit of fun on this episode as we celebrate this great nation. So, ladies, I am drinking. I thought it would be so appropriate to have some of this wonderful fireball because of fireworks and the rocket's red glare.
So what are you laid drinking?
KELLY (00:57)
that
So I I've got a lot to do after this after this episode. And so I've got a combo of my Monster Rehab. It's peach tea. And I added just a little bit of the Texas born and bred Tito's vodka. A very small amount. just to kind of go with the flow. But it's really good. It's good stuff. How about you, Mindy?
Mindy Price (01:22)
So
in true celebration fashion, I I thought it would be a little more red. I added some skinny syrup, sugar free cherry to this as well as Sprite and some Tito. So cheers, ladies.
KELLY (01:36)
Nice.
Cheers.
Natalie (01:38)
Cheers.
Mindy Price (01:42)
It's nice and refreshing. It's actually beautiful and hot outside. So when we're done here, 'cause today's technically a day off for me, I'm headed to lay out. Kelly's going to get work done. I'm sure Natalie is too. My day off. Can't wait to celebrate.
KELLY (01:43)
Ooh.
Natalie (01:54)
I'm in real estate. What's a day off? Somebody said in real estate.
KELLY (01:58)
And I could probably
be ver I could probably be very easily talked out of the work that I have to do. If if ha if something happens and my work happens to end up over on your street, Mindy, yeah. You you may see me sneaking through the through the the back window and saying, Hey, I'm here. So
Mindy Price (02:14)
I'll just leave the gate open. I'll be by the pool.
KELLY (02:16)
There you go. Okay.
Natalie (02:16)
This is when they send me pics and I get jealous because I'm on the north side and they're on the south side. They ha they get to have fun and margaritas together. Yeah. Someone said, you know, real estate, you should be able to work part time. Should be like part time business when you're in real estate. And I just kind of laughed. And he goes, Yeah, you either work the first twelve hours of the day or the second twelve hours a day. I like to work the mid twelve hours a day. That was Eddie Gantt and he said that. I was like, it's pretty
Pretty clever, pretty realistic. So as we talk about America's 250th birthday, I think there's a lot of great things that are coming. I I love seeing all the patriotic decorations. I love seeing it all. But what I also enjoy is the FIFA World Cup being here the same time. We're all celebrating America and this greatness from the UFC fight on the White House lawn to the FIFA World Cup going everywhere from Canada to
All these different places that they're having the games from Kansas City, I think Louis of Louisiana, LA, just fantastic stuff is coming. And I think it's it's really fun to see America through the lens of tourists that are here or foreigners. Mindy doesn't like to call them foreigners, but of people who are coming and visiting us and experiencing America. So it's kind of igniting this passion for everybody. Like, wow, America's not so bad. And I know there's some facts.
on America. What are what are some of the things that you guys got? I know you brought some stuff.
Mindy Price (03:46)
So I was super excited about this and I wanna say really quickly, because I've I've just got a few when we think about here we are and you know what was happening in seventeen seventy-six versus what was happening in two thousand and six. If we think about that, that is just insane. But I've been so busy and on the road for a couple of weeks, not being able to be on a lot of social media and seeing what everybody's been talking about. So I know we we will bring that up about
The World Cup being here and just their whole reactions. And it made me also think, Natalie, that as we will tell our kids, could you even imagine life without a cell phone? Could you even imagine without TV? They're like, What? We're getting to see those folks from other countries coming here and there's a stereotype where they think, you know.
whatever it was that they were raised on for whatever reason that America's not a great place and seeing on TikTok is where I went just to see what people were saying. It's really fun to see it. Now some of it I'm like, okay, is it a spoof or they're just trying to get views? Or are they really experiencing this for the first time? Something like, okay, imagine so in 1776, news traveled by horseback. Okay. You were like, how how could that
even happen. But then I was watching a TikTok where a guy was like, We sat down at the greatest place ever, Texas Roadhouse, and had the most amazing bread and butter. And you can have unlimited this, you can have peanuts this. And I know that's a silly kind of, you know, correlation or whatever. It's not a correlation, but you when you when you think about it, it's like that you you really do get this. And there are just things we take for granted. We get our news so
Fast. I mean, it took weeks and months sometimes to figure out what was happening. Communication happened over letters. And then imagine this, this one right here, y'all, not having air conditioning. But that's not so different. For us in the US, in most places, it is very different not to just automatically have air conditioning. We are very spoiled. We are very blessed. We are very lucky to live here where that's just something that you have. You have
Ice in your water that didn't exist, you know, back then. You think about those kind of things. And then this one it kept being brought up when I was looking into it. There were no antibiotics, there were no refrigerators. We just there we've come so far, not just America, but of course other places back in 1776 didn't look like it. But the things that are so normal to us that we expect when you go to another country.
You don't see those things. I'm curious what you think what what you looked up, Kelly.
Natalie (06:24)
I wait before she says something, you want to talk about news traveling slow, think about Juneteenth. Why does Texas celebrate Juneteenth the way that we do? It's because it was the day that Texas, you know, when we got word, the slaves received word that they were free. It wasn't right away. They didn't know that that who had won. They were still in the dark. So it wasn't until Juneteenth that they were notified. So talk about important news not traveling fast. Like that's you know, you can't just
KELLY (06:42)
Mm-hmm.
Natalie (06:54)
send a smoke screens up in the sky where everybody would see it. It was unfortunate. But yeah, I I can't imagine. We're we're used to getting news so quickly and everything so fast. It's it's
Mindy Price (07:05)
And and you said that. And so we recently celebrated that. And I wanna say the National Apartment Association did an amazing job of recognizing Juneteenth when we were in New Orleans. It was absolutely beautiful and wonderful. And I'm so glad they called it out. So just, you know, kudos to them.
KELLY (07:21)
Yeah, so I mean I j I just think it's kinda cool that when you you know, you hear about you know the Declaration of Independence and everything, a lot of people just take some some of that for granted. But when you when you think about all the all the people coming together from the thirteen colonies and signing that huge document that was, you know, mostly written in by you know by Thomas Jefferson and they signed it. And at that point, America was no longer under British rule. And so that when we
We celebrated the independence and there was a huge question as to whether or not the country would even survive. But obviously we have and we've we've gone on on to thrive and and everything. And, you know, one of the one of the wonderful things I I I was looking up is and it kind of goes along with what Natalie was saying, is you know, when we travel abroad, there are certain things that we want to go see. If we go to Paris, you know, I wanted to see the Eiffel Tower and and the Mona Lisa and and those types of things and
I think when you have to think about what people who are coming to this country want to see, and of course for FIFA, we know if they want to see they want to see the games. But I looked up what they might want to see by coming to America and it included things like of course the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, the Golden Gate Bridge, you know, Disney World, Disneyland, Hollywood, all of those things that America is is is known for. lot of its national parks and and everything, and I
I've had the the luxury of getting to visit every single state. it took me 50 years to do it. I started when I was five with my grandparents and finally made Hawaii about three years ago. And you know, one of the main things that I always wanted to go see at in every state was all the, you know, all the things that were specific to America, like Washington, DC. If you've not been to Washington, DC.
my gosh. You could spend an entire week there and still not see all the fabulous things that it offers about America. I mean, the tomb of the unknown soldier, the Lincoln Memorial, you know, got it it's just it's just amazing. my gosh.
Mindy Price (09:29)
Architecture. The architecture is mind
blind. Like I literally have gotten tears in my eyes at times when I've gone on tours, just seeing how incredibly ornate and beautiful and detailed the architecture is just, and I'm not a huge architecture person, but you can't help but just be in awe.
KELLY (09:47)
Yeah, you yeah. And I mean when you of course the you know the big the big Vietnam wall, you know, for all those that were lost in Vietnam and and just there it's it's somber, but you you do you get tears in your eyes because you think back like we have so many luxuries now, but you think about all those veterans that makes me cry that fought. So we can have those luxuries. Sorry, it's just it's overwhelming.
Very, very overwhelming to see that. And my when I went to Hawaii, I thought, you know, yes, I want to go see all the, you know, the the rainforest, all that stuff. But the things, wow, when when I saw the USS Arizona, and when I tell you, when you get on that boat, nobody's speaking. Because they're just absorbing everything. And you think about use you think about picturing all these young kids.
that were in their ear early twenties and they wake up one day and all of a sudden they are just getting the crap bombed out of them. And when you look underwater and you still see the Arizona under there, I mean, it's just it's just overwhelming. And I mean, I don't want to say you feel guilty for for being so alive and thriving off of everything that they died for. But if you walk away and you're not thankful and you're not happy and prideful to live in this country, then
Something's wrong with you because it is just it it's just it's amazing everything that we have to offer and we realize how much was sacrificed for it. So it was it was great, it was fantastic. So if you haven't been there, that definitely needs to be on your bucket list. Any any of these places that are, you know, Statue of Liberty and course, ground zero. I haven't been back to ground zero in in years. Matter of fact, the I don't think the the new the new World Trade Center had even been built the last time I was there. So we need a road trip, ladies, to go back and see it.
'Cause that that was overwhelming for me too. I remember I you couldn't get me away from the TV. when you know, when nine eleven was, you know, happening and and occurring. It was just yeah. Yeah. America's been through a lot and we just alive and we just keep kicking, you know, trying to anyway. So
Natalie (12:02)
Yeah,
and then me, the conspiracy theories going off like when we talk about the bombing of the Arizona, US Arizona. and I I don't even think it's a conspiracy. I think it's been validated, you know, on what what really happened and who knew what, when, and where. So I won't go into all that because this really is a celebration conversation. and if you hear cheering in my background, I just wanna say FIFA is live and
KELLY (12:08)
Mm-hmm.
Natalie (12:25)
Going in my house and somebody just scored a goal, and everybody is super. I mean, we are eating and breathing and sleeping, FIFA. I have been blowing y'all up on Facebook Messenger. It's probably y'all probably stop checking Facebook Messenger because there is so much fun going on with the the FIFA. And the one thing, you know, that they said, which is going on with all the people that's traveling here and it spreading the message about how great America is.
They're not going to those traditional places, Kelly. They are going to the everyday places that we go. They are stopping at Waffle House and they are having waffles. And they said it's like a hibachi grill. They cook it right in front of you. It's fresh. You can't get anything better than this. And I do not think they're trolling Mindy. I think they truly appreciate it. They appreciate the ice in the water and the free water. They appreciate the bathrooms. They appreciate being able to use the restroom for free. I cannot imagine.
KELLY (12:57)
Natalie (13:21)
being charged for the restroom. Like I know where every restroom is on the drives that I have to go to in between my listings and my I'm like, okay, there's a restroom there, there's a restroom there. That's just my OAB that I got, but that's another story. So
KELLY (13:35)
And you know, I'm and not to interrupt you, but you're you're right. You know, when when even as t as as we are tourists and we go to different countries, I think you you go and you see what that place is famous for. So I think what's nice about those that are coming here for FIFA is that their main focus, of course, is wherever their team is playing. And so they have to seek out some of those neat places. And if you're in the middle of I mean, Houston, we love Houston.
But it doesn't have a lot of the, you know, it doesn't have the statues and everything like that. So they have to look for, you know, the best barbecue or the best Mexican food or whatever. So I think when you're at some of those different cities that maybe don't offer the big tourist traps, they have to do the waffle house and those things. And I and you're right. I've got a girlfriend of mine that anytime we would go somewhere, she would not go to the IHOP or Denny's. She is gonna seek out the
the smallest hole in the wall, and you walk in, you're like, my gosh, what okay. And of course you walk in, everybody looks at you, you're like, hi. And it's usually the best food, the best company. You get welcomed in and people, come back and see us. And and it because they're the people that really make up what America is. And it's it's not exploited. It's just, hey, this is who we are. But
You're right. I I definitely think people miss out when they spend a lot of their time just at all of those big giant events and and monuments and stuff and miss out on some of the smaller things that make up so much of what you know what we are. I mean, unlimited chips and salsa, when you go eat Mexican food, I mean, how many people don't actually f fill up just on that and margaritas and then they say, I just just give me
Give me that mine in a g to go box and I'll eat it later on at home. So yeah.
Natalie (15:35)
You know, that that's been the beauty is is to the game. So they'll they'll have multiple, cause this is just the positioning. Like this is just the opening, opening act. I I don't even know. I'm not even a soccer girl, and you can tell this, but you play your two games, you're getting positioned in the bracket, who you're gonna go on and play and everything. So you may have a game here like Canada. Freddy flew to Canada, and Freddy's been the one that flew into Atlanta. He's with his buds, and you know, when international travelers or foreigners, they travel like
They vacation like they mean it. Like they take two weeks to a month. They like enjoy it. They immerse themselves. They check out a work completely. They could teach us a thing or two about just being present in that moment. but they took off from Atlanta and he drove through all the states and he's like, every state is like its own country, like they have their own theme, they have their own presence and atmosphere. He stopped at New Orleans, he stopped at the beach in Alabama, and just along the way, and then he's became an Ella fella and as a
you know, went to the Oklahoma concert, Ella Langley's O Oklahoma concert. She set all up with cowboy boots and cowboy hats and the whole nine yards and suitcases to travel with. Like they're having to ship this stuff back that they're getting from people. JJ Watts set up in Houston, you know, with snacks and everything, apparel, whatever they need. They flew to Toronto because they're Germany fans. So they tr flew to Toronto and there was a storm and they weren't gonna make it back in time.
So JJ Watt somehow, and I don't know if this was AI, so don't quote me on this. I could be wrong. I didn't verify the source and go back and double check and see if it was a made-up story or not. But JJ Watt got him out of Canada and got him back in time to watch Germany play. Like, there's so many people invested with Freddy. Like, he always puts a picture of Reynaldo over his face, so nobody knows what he looks like. And his friends, his counterparts, all have smiley faces on him. But there are so many people from the Japanese that are trying.
everything and teaching us how to clean, after ourselves, you know, like there's so many things that we're taking away. The Scottish that are teaching the Bostons how to how to drink every liquor, you know, like all the beer out. Like I think they had to like ship in more beer. Like it's yeah, they ran out of beer. It's just been such a good, I think it's a wholesome healing kind of thing for everybody.
One of the biggest things that they're talking about, the massive stadiums. Like they were saying, we don't know if, you know, the states have the infrastructure to handle the big FIFA events, but they're like, every weekend they're having FIFA events across the nation at their their American football games. And, you know, they like how friendly people are. They actually just talk to you in the street just to have a conversation and they care about you. It's not just, what are you doing? Why are you talking to me? It's you know, it's an investment.
KELLY (18:22)
Yeah.
Mindy Price (18:23)
A genuine smile.
A genuine smile. You travel to some countries and you don't make eye contact. You don't smile. That's considered annoying. And here it's like, but this is who we are. This is what we do. This is what we fought for, for these these freedoms to have, to be able to do that. And if you're not that person, that's okay too. But you know, I
Natalie (18:41)
It's it's
the finger wave on the steering wheel when you're driving. Hey, how are you? You know, driving in the neighborhood. It's like, hey, they like the food, the different cultures, because it's not just Americans, especially in Houston. Like, how diverse is Houston? We are fantastically diverse. You can go to any kind of corner in Houston and have a whole different international like cater to you because it's their their community is all there. And it's so fun because you can find food.
Mindy Price (18:44)
Natalie (19:11)
One guy was talking about, he's like, whatever you want, it's in Houston. You you can find whatever food, you can find whatever, it's in Houston. of course, the Texas hospitality and the different cultures, but everything is bigger in Texas. AC Mindy, you mentioned that, you know, whenever I book my hotels to go international, I book for AC because I can't sleep without AC. I keep my room down at sixty something degrees so I can go to sleep with the fan on. So,
They like the giant pickup trucks. They like the free drink refills, which we covered. They're like, You mean I can have more than one? How much is this? But bless their hearts if they get juice and they try and get a refill on fresh squeezed juice. That ain't gonna happen. but road trips, freedom to reinvent yourself, home ownership. People are talking about moving here. Like they're just like, How do I get a visa here? And they they just compare to the different states. Like they're picking out their favorite states that they've traveled to and what they thought. So
it's really nice to see, and I hope as everybody's watching it that they're they feel a pride, you know, pridefulness in the States and everything that we have accomplished. We're not the big bad gremlin. We're not, you know, mean people here. We really do care and are compassionate. And we see that in people's posts. You know, we see cowboys. Hey, if you're want to come check out our if you're here for FIFA World Cup, come check out my ranch. I'm a working ranch. I'd love to.
Have you catered and hosed around? So I don't know. It's been it's been a lot of fun. And I know being born in 1976, you know, being a bicentennial baby, I think it's kind of it's fun and it's sweet to actually be able to experience everything that's going on and have the pride, especially with everybody being so down and there being so much angst within the states and so much political rife and just this.
this division and divisiveness, it's nice to have some cohesiveness internationally from everybody kind of coming together and just being a part of something bigger than them. You know, it's like really it's just about America enjoying the stuff, enjoying each other and, you know, just just being good people, I think.
KELLY (21:11)
Mm-hmm.
Sorry.
Well, I'm I'm really I'm I'm really thankful that people are having such a positive experience and like you said, getting to go back home with stories that are like, hey, wow, it it it's it's different than what we expected, but it's different in a good way. You know, the other day, the the the Dutch took over the the streets of Houston. I mean there there were thout well, I said thousands, I don't know how many it were, but thousands they were all in orange.
Natalie (21:53)
Thousands. They had to have been.
KELLY (21:56)
And they were like marching down the street going to support their team. And it was it was incredible to see the pride that they brought. And and a lot of the Houstonians would there were two girls I interviewed and they had these little troll outfits on and they were dressing all orange, said we're here to support them. We're we're from Texas, but we're here to support them. And and so everybody, I know there were several people in their Astros orange, but they were marching with them. So it was neat to see.
them all come together and support, you know, their team and stuff. And I know when our Texans go and play in Europe, we have the traveling Texans, but there are a lot of Europeans who go in there and they'll be wearing, you know, either the Texans gear or whoever the Texans are playing it, you know, while they're over there. And it's just, it's neat to see, like you said, for s for whatever reason, sports just
it it just brings people together. You forget where you're from. It's like look at the Olympics when you've got you know, every four years you've got people from different countries. And sometimes these are countries that may actually be not at war, but just have such major differences. But that's all forgotten. It's all forgotten when you come together for a common good and that is competition and sports and camaraderie. Yeah, and camaraderie and it's like, you know, let's forget our differences and just, you know
Natalie (23:15)
Cheers to that.
KELLY (23:21)
B B is one and it was yeah, it was it's great to see. I would drink my drink, but I just looked and there's a gnat in there, so I'm just I think Cheers, I'm I was I was
Natalie (23:30)
Extra protein. Go for it, Kelly. Take one.
Mindy Price (23:33)
I saw you
looking at it earlier, I was like, there's something in her drink.
KELLY (23:37)
I
know I looked and I my apologies that I lost because I lost track 'cause I was like I was just about to take a drink and I thought there was something kinda hanging out and it broke.
Mindy Price (23:45)
And and I was like, I can edit that out. Now I'm like, I gotta keep that in and then but cause your face, like it was like, Aww.
KELLY (23:51)
You know what I can do? I can just I can just do this.
Natalie (23:52)
Well.
Mindy Price (23:57)
Ha ha ha.
Natalie (23:57)
For it. So I was at
Texas Hideout. We went to Texas Hideout to watch one of the games. They've got all the big screens up and everything. And there was some orange in there. And you know, I thought it was funny because the announcers were like, you know, Houston's now painted orange. I'm like, are you kidding? We've been orange before. Like, we've got the dynamo that's orange. We've got the Astros that are orange. We're orange. We bleed orange. But of course, there were these people in there wearing orange. And there was an Astros game. So it was kind of a convergence. And we
KELLY (24:04)
Yes.
Natalie (24:28)
We I was talking to my son Mason. I'm like, Mason, go over and find out if they're Dutch. Like, come on, let's go. Like, let's let's let's find I'm on a mission to find some some FIFA people to have a conversation with. Like I wanna I wanna talk. And I went over and one of the guys is actually from Dutch, like he's from Holland. So it was it was a good conversation, but he lives here and he was with his family and they were all wearing their orange and they just went out to support. So it was fun. Didn't find a real authentic person that isn't from here, but
KELLY (24:51)
Але
Natalie (24:56)
I'm on a mission, ladies. I'm gonna see if I can't find somebody, so
Mindy Price (24:59)
Hey, and speaking
KELLY (24:59)
Agreed.
Mindy Price (25:00)
of Texas Hideout, you took us there. We filmed a few episodes there. They were a great host to us. We are doing a live, we're doing three or four live interviews and recordings coming up. I shouldn't know the date, but I is it July seventh? July seventh. We're gonna be live at Texas Hideout. So that's gonna be a lot of fun.
Natalie (25:14)
July seventh.
Yeah, we have Eddie
Gant coming. We have Steve Rozenberg coming. We have Ashley from Police Happenings, Food Happenings, Soda Happening. She runs a couple of pages. She does a lot of charity, a lot of good things for the North Side community, got a big following. and she's just really a quiet, kind of private person. She's not up in front of the camera much. So this will be kind of new for her. And then we also have Hope for Allie.
Ali Lowitzers' story. So she is a young woman. She was a young girl, 16, had her first job, got off the school bus and walked to get her paycheck. Never seen again. So, you know, just one of those things, those stories, the the heartbreak that a a family has. So we're gonna have Joy, her mother on. So just some good episodes coming up and and some good things. Hopefully we can shed some light, you know, it anytime there's
KELLY (25:55)
Mm. Yeah.
Natalie (26:10)
A missing person, anything along those lines, you're just hoping somebody will hear something and remember something. So, you know, anything we can do to help shed light on that. So yeah, lots of good things kind of
Mindy Price (26:20)
Yeah, we did.
Well, speaking of that, just to say it because they're still looking for her, finding Becky Beard. We had her daughter on. It was a very light-hearted episode. First time that Brittany had come on. So we wanted to make it just very much what she was comfortable talking about. And now a lot more people are covering that story. And you know, we just hope whatever is happening, we don't know. We have no clue that they they get the answers that they need. And so, you know, we appreciate this platform and we're here, you know, thinking about celebrating America's two hundred and fiftieth and
How lucky we are to live in this time that things are so very different from where they were, even, you know, 20, 30, 250 years ago. We can't even, you know, fathom that or think it. But we are very blessed and very lucky to be here and to be able to have these kind of episodes and the platform that we have and just getting to, you know, share our stories, put our spin on things, you know, our happy hour meets hustle. When we originally decided to do this, sugar, spice, and spirits, we had no clue how it would take off, and we're still
you know, sometimes figuring it all out, but what an amazing country that we live in that we can do this very thing right now. And that's a big celebration too.
KELLY (27:27)
Yeah.
Yeah, absolutely. And it's and it's funny on on a funny note, y you know, we we talk about you know, A C and stuff and you know, living up in Colorado for a while, we didn't we didn't always have AC because it it never got too crazy. But for me it's the opposite. I can tolerate the heat. Now it is nice to come in from from the heat and go into the AC, but to me, being cold, I I basically will tell everybody I would have not made a very good pioneer woman because I cannot stand being cold. I would have had to like
Natalie (27:29)
Yeah.
KELLY (27:56)
migrate down to the equator and just kind of hang out because I hate being cold. So I'm more or less like, do you have a heater? Are does your li is it warm? Because if it's not warm, I finally, God bless her, our one of our best friends moved to Alaska four or five years ago, maybe and and I haven't been to see her yet. She could you come in to see me like no, it's cold up there. Well she finally tied me down. She said, you know what? It's July. It's not cold.
Book it. And she told me that Southwest now flies too directly into Anchorage and I'm like, Damn, okay. There you go. So yeah. So I'm actually going to see her next month, in July, you know, for the first time and I feel terrible that it's been so long. But I'm like, Hey, if it's cold, mama's not going.
Natalie (28:43)
We'll
have to do podcast from there. That'll be awesome.
KELLY (28:45)
Yes, yes, yeah, 'cause it it's amazing.
Mindy Price (28:46)
Yeah, well you have to tell me
after this because I depend if I'm not booked to speak somewhere, maybe I could just put a post out and say, Hey, I'm gonna be in Alaska if you're having a team meeting and you want me to come in and do something on leadership and communication, I'll give you a discount, Alaska, because I'm gonna be in your neck of the woods.
Natalie (28:59)
In Alaska.
KELLY (29:06)
Yeah, why not?
Natalie (29:06)
I think Alaska's much bigger
than you think. It's not like it's in your backyard.
Mindy Price (29:12)
target Anchorage.
KELLY (29:14)
Yeah. So sh she lives right outside of Anchorage, but and she works in Anchorage. So but the funny thing is is that e it's still gonna take me ten hours to get there 'cause I have to fly from from Houston to Denver and then from Denver to to Anchorage. And I leave at nine thirty that morning but I don't get there till nine forty five that night. And then, you know, it's but
Natalie (29:14)
Where's where's
Okay.
Mindy Price (29:37)
The hours
Natalie (29:37)
probably
still be daylight.
Mindy Price (29:38)
time difference and
KELLY (29:39)
Yeah, so but but I told her, I said, Okay, I'm I'm coming, I'm coming. It's it's you know and I she said, All right, I'll take you to w bring warm clothes. I was like, What? But yeah, but
Mindy Price (29:49)
You told me it was warm.
Natalie (29:50)
We need to
have her on the on the podcast too. Like what in the world made you go from Texas to Alaska?
KELLY (29:57)
Yeah, well, it's a funny story. It she's she's a nurse and she was just she was ready for some changes from down here and she kind of got, you know, caught in a rut and decided she wanted to make some changes. And she was at literally at my house and was looking for some of the traveling nurse jobs. And I think it was one of those things where she didn't have her glasses on. And so she went in there and she was looking at something and she hit the button and
I think she said she thought she was choosing Arkansas. And she ended up doing Alaska I said, she goes, my God, I'm going to Alaska. But she got there and it changed her life. I mean, now she's she's kind of a girly girl. So when Mindy and I saw her doing things like snowshoeing and in a in a kayak in freezing cold water, I'm like, okay, who are you? And what have you done?
Mindy Price (30:49)
Here's our friend.
KELLY (30:50)
Yeah, who are you and what have you done with L'Donna? Because this is not L'Donna But she just it it was her calling. She got there and she said, I'm not coming back. I love it up here. So it's just amazing how you if you don't if you don't go outside your comfort zone and try to experience some of the new things, you don't know what you're missing. And so as much as we love her and miss her, she is she is living her best life up there. Has a war met a wonderful man and and yeah.
Mindy Price (31:01)
Yeah, she's and she has
KELLY (31:19)
So I'm gonna go up there. I've been to Alaska, but just very tip of Alaska, Ketchukan. So I'm actually gonna get to go in and see a part of Alaska that I've never seen before. So I'm excited.
Mindy Price (31:28)
So
fun fact, Natalie, when we had our radio show together, when they deemed us Sugar and Spice, nobody knew who was Sugar, who was spice, prior to this podcast. do you remember I would talk about And our favorite fan listening from Alaska, and I would give him a shout out. Now you know it was L'Donna So she she followed us, she listened to it, she was like, this is great.
KELLY (31:36)
Mm-hmm.
Wait.
Natalie (31:47)
Yes.
Yeah.
KELLY (31:53)
Yeah. So maybe maybe if we do a a little podcast or just a little something something from up there, we can actually get her on camera and everybody can see who who our little famous red our other famous redhead, we have our sweet redhead Natalie here, but now you can see the other redhead. that's been, you know, a huge part of our lives and stuff. So, yeah, and she might can give us a rundown of some of the great things that Alaska has to offer and why she chose to stay there. And yeah, I think one day she woke up and there was a moose in her front yard.
Mindy Price (32:22)
is
literally and when she sends us a picture, she's driving and there's a moose. And so y'all, if you want to hear your name called out, we talk about our friends in Ireland. We're still so thankful for all of our friends in Ireland that watch the podcast and pay attention to us. If you have a show topic or there's something you want us to bring up and you send us a drink.
You can go to Sugar Spice and Spirits. You can send us a drink suggestion under Spill the Tea, or you have an episode idea, you can go to our social media channels. You can really go anywhere and talk to us if you want to hear your name on the podcast because we're starting to bring on guests, we're starting to do more of these, we're going on location. It's getting really exciting. And as we grow, we would love for you to be a part of that. Nat, I didn't want just
interrupt that, but I just felt like it was a great moment to throw all that out there as I know you'll wrap it all up in a pretty bow after you get your last thought out.
Natalie (33:13)
Yeah, no, I just want to say America the Great, America the Beautiful. Like it really is such an awesome, awesome country. And we're so thankful we are here. We're thankful we're in God's country. And guys, remember, it's a semi-quincentennial. That's what it is. So happy birthday, America. happy birthday, America. And thanks to everybody who's coming. If you guys wanna, if you're visiting FIFA World Cup.
Mindy Price (33:32)
Stay back.
Natalie (33:40)
