A journey from procrastination to productivity - the hosts share what actually gets them (and you) unstuck.
Mindy (00:36)
Well, hello everybody. Welcome to another episode of Sugar Spice and Spirits podcast. I'm one of your hosts, Mindy.
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (00:43)
Natalie.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (00:45)
and I'm Kelly.
Mindy (00:46)
We are coming to you from another location or at least I am I am in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee today and Natalie and Kelly are in their respective hometowns if you've been watching you know where that is We also joke around about one of them is in Canada and the other ones in Mexico based on how far away in Houston They are from each other but coming to you from Pigeon Forge. I'm actually here celebrating a dear friend's 50th birthday. I'm with three girlfriends and the
the day before we get into our actual main dish is a surprise.
It's a surprise for me of how we found it. So when we talked about doing a morning episode, because I've got a big day ahead planned with my girlfriends. We're doing a whiskey and wine tasting, then we're going to ride a roller coaster during the day, then we're going have dinner, then we're going to ride a roller coaster at night in the mountains to kind of check out the difference, came to us because I was, so the sip of the day came to us, I told the ladies, I was like, hey, let's just do a Bailey's and coffee. Let's do something simple. And so as we're driving in yesterday, I saw what I thought was a liquor store.
And so I'm like, hey, I wasn't driving, but the person who was, I made the sound and they, know, they humored humored me and we, you know, came in on a couple of wheels very safely and we walk into this liquor store and immediately I'm looking around. I'm like, this is this, is not a normal liquor store. I don't.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (01:59)
you
Mindy (02:12)
if they're gonna have Baileys. And so the guy looked at me, he could see it on my face. He was like, may I help you? And I was like, yeah, do you have Baileys? And he was like, well, we have our own version of it. Would you like to do a tasting? Twist my arm. And so we actually got to taste several different whiskeys. And so it was inspired by, and they are not sponsors or anything, but we ended up at the Tennessee Legend Distillery. And so we bought this dirty cream. You can see we've already had
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (02:26)
Right.
Ooh.
Mindy (02:42)
some
but again I'm with three other ladies and then y'all this one the salted caramel my gosh and notice it says over proof it's nighty proof it is it's really good so you definitely want to be careful with it so anyway that's what I have in my coffee I don't know
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (02:44)
Already half the bottle's gone, Mindy.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (02:56)
Wow.
Do they ship? Will they ship?
So
you have to actually have to be careful because there are some states, because when we went to Arizona and we went to the big winery there, at one point we found some great wines that we wanted and Texas was one of the states that they would not allow you to ship in alcohol. So, but I'll drive Louisiana and pick it up it's good. So, but yeah, double check that just in case, because sometimes those little small...
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (03:30)
There ain't gonna be any left. It's gonna be gone.
Mindy (03:34)
Well, we're flying in, but
in Tennessee, not Louisiana. So where you were was Louisiana.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (03:39)
Right, but no, but I'm saying you can
strip it to my office in Louisiana and I'll go pick it up for us. Road trip. Business road trip. But no, if it's that good, then I would love to have some. Maybe you can put it in your suitcase.
Mindy (03:45)
Where are you going? Well, we're going to pick up some packages.
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (03:58)
That's why she's asking. She's trying
to get her own, her own set there. She's like, give me some of that Tennessee.
Mindy (04:01)
I know. It is good.
We bought another one that was wedding bells, but they have their version of tequila. have their version. Their whiskeys are really good. They have some moonshines. They have different seasonal ones. You can tell the ones that are really good because they were sold out. We couldn't even try it. But it was really neat. It was a fun experience. And I think life is all about fun experiences. We were just looking to get in and get out really quickly. We needed to get to a bakery for a cake that we had ordered. And we went ahead and called the lady. And we said, hey, we're going to be about 15 minutes late. We were like 30 minutes late. She was fine.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (04:31)
We're gonna be late.
Mindy (04:34)
And so we we did the whole experience and then we purchased these and I thought it would be super fun to share with you all So moving on from me what you got Nat?
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (04:45)
Texas law you cannot ship in distillery products so you'd have to do a road trip to Louisiana.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (04:52)
Yeah.
Mindy (04:53)
Okay, well...
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (04:55)
I'll allow it. Road trip.
Mindy (04:56)
Yeah,
we could do road trip. So what's your drink today, Natalie?
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (04:58)
Oh, what do I
got? Oh, okay. What do I have? I have a little dust on the bottle. Got some Kahlua here. I had this puppy around for a while. I know if you can see that dust. But my daughter actually...
Mindy (05:10)
Are you trying to justify?
Is that what's happening here?
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (05:14)
I don't know, just, my alcohol usually doesn't get dust on it. However, I am drinking a Kahlua and coffee this morning for you, Mindy. I'm starting early, but I'm enjoying it, so that's what I'm drinking.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (05:27)
Mmm.
Mindy (05:28)
Awesome.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (05:28)
I like it.
I love Kahlua. So on my end, as you know, I like the bourbon base. So I'm doing coffee and a bourbon cream. It's really, really good. It's almost kind of like a Bailey's, but it does have a little bit more of the bourbon hint flavor to it. And I don't see what kind of proof it is, but it's good. It's good. It's great. Sometimes you can even put a little whipped cream on the top, make it a little pretty. But it's good. It's really good. like it. I like it a lot.
Mindy (05:56)
Yeah, and I know a secret. So
she brought that out to share, but this is one of those where Kelly actually did not pour it in her coffee. It is just a straight coffee because she has a lot to do when she's actually driving today. So she wanted to be part of the conversation and share what she would be doing if her coffee was loaded, but hers in fact is unloaded today.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (06:07)
Yes.
Mine is on the lighter side today. I have just my Chobani or Chobini or whatever it's called, creamer. So yes. I'm plain and boring today, but.
Mindy (06:27)
Hey, there is nothing wrong with plain and boring. I'll say cheers to that in my what would Dolly do cup. I'm gonna take a sip and then we're gonna get into the main dish.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (06:35)
Yep, and I am hot mess today and I know you guys don't see this but if you could have seen the whole set up prep this morning, Mindy should have this cup right now. was, woo, she was having a time getting started guys this morning.
Mindy (06:50)
which included a whole
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (06:51)
Follow on TikTok.
Mindy (06:51)
coffee
ending up on the floor. Yeah, maybe we'll push that on TikTok because they were recording during all of it because there was some fun stuff happening and Kelly said, hey, we should be recording this. And I was like, what could they catch on camera?
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (07:08)
Yeah. Yes.
Mindy (07:08)
a lot, but we digress.
It didn't help with my time management this morning because I actually am on a deadline and the topic of today, our main dish, has to do with time management. You always hear you can't buy more time. I mean, it's the most expensive thing in the world and know, Natalie and I and Kelly too with the background we would say in real estate and real estate investing is, you know, if you can create more passive income for yourself, you could be in a position where you actually do have more time.
And yes, absolutely. But if somebody isn't financially in that position to buy themselves more time, it's like how do you create more time? And some of the most wealthy people in the world also want more time. It's one of those things. So you have to create it yourself. And there's a lot of different ways that you can manage your time wisely so that you can have a more productive day. And we just wanted to share a few tips with you. We struggle too.
that we have our own businesses outside of the podcast and the podcast takes quite a bit of time to make sure that we're hopefully providing value and you're enjoying it and we still want to have fun with it too and there are times we get stressed with it and so Kelly the other day you were talking about your different businesses and going in and blocking your time and time blocking is one of those things that you can do. Task management and really focusing on those tasks but the biggest thing and I'll turn it over to you ladies that has always helped
And I don't always follow this but it's something that Mark Twain and Brian Tracy have each said in their respective ways is that the thing you hate worst eat it first and that's not exactly how they coined it but it's like if you ate a frog first thing in the morning what can be worse eating a nasty frog and That's your thing on your to-do list that you keep kicking down, you know We all have those or I say we all that's very general But most people have that thing that if they would just do that task
taxes Natalie if they would just do that task the pressure would be relieved or and then you do that task and you're like why did I procrastinate so much just in general whatever it is I would have had so much more relief if I would have eaten that frog and I actually and I'm not home like I said I'm in pigeon Forge I'm in a beautiful cabin in in the wilderness if you would right now in the mountain but I have a frog and when you squeeze him he's like that bubbly and you squeeze him his
eyes pop out and I'll look at him and I'm like, I need to squeeze you and I'll go to my to-do list and that thing that I've been pushing down the road, I do it and it frustrates me. So there is a little bit of that, know, squeezing it, that stress relief, but it's a reminder to me, just get it done. You know, just focus on that. I'm curious if either one of you have something like that that motivates you or where you're at or what you're struggling with right now.
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (10:00)
Well, I think.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (10:00)
You know, I'm
sorry, Natalie, I think the things that we assume are going to be the most difficult and the most unpleasant are the ones that we do tend, I'm a terrible procrastinator and I mean, I will own it. That's one reason, know, what do they say? The best time to clean your house or the best time that you do clean your house is when you know you're about to have company because you get it done just like that.
Mindy (10:22)
Or when my housekeeper's coming
over.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (10:24)
Yes, yeah, I gotta clean my house, my housekeeper's coming and you're like, that just makes no sense at all. you know, but one of the rules of thumb that I try to follow is if it's a task that's gonna take less than two minutes, do it first. Do it first, knock it out, be done with it. But I'm like you, Natalie, my CPA gives me a packet for my taxes every year and it has the last three years and basically it's just a check, check it off.
This was the first year in five years I have not had to file an extension for my taxes because I finally just said, because I remember every single time I finally get it done, it's like, well, it really wasn't that difficult. I just hate doing it. It's just one of those things that it's not pleasant to me. So I put it off and put it off. Whereas if I would just stick to my guns and do it, it would be, it would be done, finished. That's, that's my frog. That's my frog. Just get it done and, and, be ready for it. But yeah, I'm, think for me, the things that are not very pleasant,
and time consuming are the ones that I tend to procrastinate the worst about.
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (11:28)
Yeah, I think what's on the other side of greatness or what's on the other side of that procrastination is greatness. Like that's that one thing that is really holding you back from being in your right place. And as soon as you just grab that bull, and we say this a lot, grab that bull by the horns.
your life will get so much better once you get that task off your plate. And you put in a system to manage it too. Like if it's something that's like accounting, do it every month and block, time block that off and you'll be able to get there. But I see this with my kids, I see this in professional spaces where we usually put off that one task we don't like to do. Either you outsource it or you just get it done. And one thing I've been reading is your first...
brain in the morning is when you can take care of these tasks. Like don't put it off. Don't do those smaller tasks like Kelly's suggesting. Give yourself an hour from seven to eight on that task and just take it one bite at a time. Like how do you get an elephant? One bite at a time. So get it done and then once you get that albatross off your back, you'll be able to soar and you can't soar until that's handled. So that's one of the biggest things that I think that when we self-sabotage, that is the
the thing right there, that thing that is in front of us that you're putting off, I challenge you to go do it, to take care of it. Even if you can't finish it today, start. Like I've started implementing, I've got QuickBooks in place, I've got, and it's just getting started and working at it every day, taking bites of that elephant. I can't sit there and dedicate two days, three days and knock it out like I need to, so.
an hour a day gets me closer and it also sets me up for success down the road that I'm putting in systems that I won't have this this issue next time. I'll get it done early. So I do have a question Mindy. Why did the tardy man stop to purchase a clock?
Mindy (13:20)
Mm-hmm.
So we wouldn't be late.
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (13:29)
Kelly, got an idea?
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (13:31)
I was going to say something similar to what Mindy said, but I'm sure there's going to be a much better punchline.
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (13:36)
He wanted to buy time.
Mindy (13:39)
Okay, I like it.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (13:39)
very good. Very good. So.
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (13:44)
So
why did the girl sit on her watch?
Mindy (13:47)
I... my gosh! No, for those of you that don't know...
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (13:48)
She wanted to be on time.
That's That's all I got.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (13:54)
Literally, literally.
That's okay.
Mindy (13:58)
When Natalie and I had a radio show together, I would always start out with a joke. Typically, not always the best joke. Some of them landed really well and folks looked forward to it, so I'm glad you're bringing that back, Natalie. Yeah, so I love it. Well, you know, one thing, just going back to the whole time management and wanting to be on time, and you talked about...
Time-blocking and there's there's time blocking and there's task batching there are two different ways that you can use as a medium for helping you in your time management and Both have very positive Things that you would be able to look to them and go this works for me however both can be a little rigid too in how you
Look at that and it depends on your personality. So if somebody is like, okay, I've got to block these two hours and I'm going to get this particular task done. Because like you said, Natalie, you can't just focus for two days on one thing. You've got too much that's going on. Well, if you have that, let's say two hours blocked off and then something gets in your way, it may, it's like a puzzle piece. You're trying to figure out your life and how to get all these things together. It literally could derail you. But I think on big projects and things or just focus time, you know, we have,
have three different businesses. focusing on each one of those at different times a day, that has been something that's helped me. And then the task batching is, you can look at some of your more admin tasks, your emails, your posting that you're coming up with creation of it, that you might be able to block in that time and you figure out how much for your particular business. But.
There's a lot of different ways you can focus on time management. typically, almost every conversation we have, AI is part of it. It's somehow brought.
to it. One of my clients sent me a text message and he was like, I am at this conference and I'm pretty tech savvy and the amount of AI and how fast paced it's moving is absolutely insane. It's crazy. I'm even overwhelmed. But AI is a great thing. So let's talk about it from that standpoint for a minute. So I went into my chatty, who knows me and I have different labels for each one of my businesses and I just asked a simple
question.
I said, how should I prompt you to get the best response for being better at time management? And it gave me a list of prompts for different motives. Of course it knew me, so it said, knowing that you have multiple businesses, knowing that you are a speaker, knowing that you are a consultant and a coach, these are the things you may want to ask me.
if you want to dive deeper you could give me the example and it used me and it was I would say 90 % correct you could give me the example of X Y & Z and how do I run my day and still have time for my family and then it did end up he said you he she I don't know what it is but anyway the AI said I know family is important to you and this is something that most solopreneurs and entrepreneurs and just individuals struggle with
So I think using AI for whatever and going in there and saying, hey, these are the things that I struggle with. This is what I need to get done. These are the timeframes they need to get done. These are the hours that I typically work. And then letting chatty or whoever it is that you're using come back and give you guidelines. And if you're like, that doesn't feel right, well, you're not being judged. It's just gonna come back and you refine your prompts. AI can save you so much time. know recently,
I just did three in a row custom
speaking engagements for three completely different clients and because of AI and getting to go in there and Refine the things that I needed to refine it saved me so much time would have what would have taken me months Only took me weeks to get done and then they were home run home run presentations And it wasn't the voice of AI it was my voice and using it as a tool to help myself so if somebody is paying attention to this and they're a
I hope you're paying attention by the way. But if somebody's listening to this and you're struggling with time management or a project, go in there. Now, the thing I would say be careful with is giving it too much personal information about you. Anything that you would not want out in the internet world, also check your privacy settings with it. But that is a huge time saver. And you probably want to jump on the bandwagon sooner rather than later. Being careful with your information. But it will save you time and you also don't want to fall behind.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (18:44)
Well, and there is an art to Chatty. Remember the other day I sat there and I told you guys that me and Chatty were about to get in a fight and he or she was gonna be throat punched. And when you talk about the prompts, they're very...
Mindy (18:55)
That's very violent, by the way.
I'm just saying.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (18:58)
The prompts are very important because when I go in and do certain tasks, I'm doing the same task but with a different subject. And I finally got to where I learned how to say, I need you to do this exactly how we did it over here. And he, she finally put it in their memory bank because I was wasting so much time having to go back in there and say, no, I want it done like this.
I wanted to like this. So I finally said, how do I get you to remember what the hell we've been doing the last 25 times? And it told me. And I said, OK. But keep in mind, I agree. At first, a lot of people were thinking that AI was like plagiarism. And I guess in some circumstances, is. Right. But I'm educated.
Mindy (19:47)
one of them's getting sued right now for it, you know, so.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (19:56)
But sometimes when I want to say certain things or put certain things down on paper or in a letter, I don't like the way it's worded every once in a while. So I will use the AI and say, give me a better way of putting this, maybe more concise, maybe not so redundant. And it just gives you a better option. Sometimes I'll use my own and sometimes I'm like, yeah, I don't like that. And half the time I find myself apologizing to it because I feel like I'm talking to a human.
Bet I'm not, but.
you can use it very much for not only your work tasks but your daily tasks as well. Anyone that knows me knows that I can cook. I don't necessarily like to cook, but I'm not a creative cook. And so if someone says, you cooked dinner tonight, I'd be like, my gosh, what am I gonna cook today? And so I went to chatty the other day and I said, I need a meal plan for this week that's simple, enough for two people, it's healthy, and I don't wanna have to take greater than
30 minutes because it's time for it and it's great leftovers and within two minutes boom boom boom would you like me also to see give you a grocery list well sure you know better yet can you come cook it for me don't have that option but
Mindy (21:09)
you
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (21:11)
.
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (21:12)
So, yeah, no, think Chatty is perfect and it actually gave me a really great calendar. when you work at 9 to 5 and you're in an executive position and you have multiple meetings throughout the day, it's easy to plan your day because you're like, for instance, this morning, I knew we had this 8 o'clock recording, by the way, for you guys that don't know, it's 8 o'clock with us, think Mindy's an hour later, but...
I knew I had to get up early, had to get dressed, fix my hair, get my makeup on, and had to be somewhere at 8 o'clock ready to start. When you're in a meeting, or when you're in the corporate world and you have a meeting at 9, and then you have a meeting at 10, your day is laid out for you. When you are fortunate enough to work for yourself, sometimes, like you said, if you don't block off that time,
you can sit there and look up and you're so involved in something you look up and you've gone through lunch. You've missed half your other tasks that you want to do that day. And so I actually set an alarm on my phone and I will structure my day and I'll say, okay, on this particular day, I'm working for this company, my company in Louisiana to work on this and get those out of the way this half the day, the second half the day. And that's what works for me because otherwise I would be working up until 10 o'clock at night because I
I just get so caught up and distracted that I forget to do the other things. So I have to set my own schedule and block off my time. Otherwise, I won't get it done. And the other thing that Mindy taught me to do is one of those tasks like when you set a deadline, and it may be a fake deadline, I mean, there's nothing that says you have to have this done. But for you, you want to have it done.
There are many times that me and Mindy and Natalie, all of us, will put something out there and say, okay, I'm putting this out there. I'm gonna have this done in two days or in four days or by next week.
hold me accountable for it, because that way when you know other people are depending on you to complete that task, it's funny how you want to be a little more efficient for other people as well, even more so. And so a lot of times we will put it out there, say, hey, I'm calling you to tell you I'm gonna have this done in two weeks. And so if it's not done,
I'm giving you permission to get on my butt. that, you know, accountability is huge. And some people can hold themselves accountable, but some people, they do better when they've got their peers or their coworkers or whomever holding them accountable and saying, hey, as a of fact, my husband last night said, did you get that task done you were supposed to do for PHS? I went.
actually I did. He goes, really? I'm like, well yes. So, but I had someone depending on it. So that made me a lot more efficient is knowing that someone else is kind of watching your clock and your calendar with you. That helps me a lot.
Mindy (24:06)
Well, and Natalie, you told us no on something the other day, and I respect it so much because the power of no is super important. And you've gotten really good about focusing in lately on these are the things that I need to get done. I'm not gonna put this off. I'm gonna eat that frog. And so we were talking about different things that we needed to get done within sugar, spice, and spirits. And you're like, hey, I
to get all of these things done and she lined them out and knew exactly what they were. None of them had to do with sugar, spice and spirits by the way. She was just because of our relationship. It's like I can't take this task on. As soon as I'm done, I'll more than make up for it. And that's the type of person that Natalie is. I think in the year and a half that I've known you Natalie, that's the first time you've said no. And I want you to know the mad respect that I have for it because I also know these things that you want to get done and there's power in that. And so, know, Kelly, if you're looking at
This is what your schedule is and you have these hard deadlines. Some of your deadlines are flexible It gives you the ability to say no with a backbone
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (25:03)
Mm-hmm.
Mindy (25:07)
it know you can feel confident in saying that you know and to say yes with I absolutely can do that and so Natalie I just want to commend you in the podcast world didn't even know it was going to come out like that but but for that because I am noticing as we're talking about these things we've talked a lot about time management personally because we're juggling a lot of different things and we don't want this podcast to not be fun anymore we want to provide value we want to enjoy doing it but we cannot let it overtake so much stuff to where then it's like we're not
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (25:19)
you
Mindy (25:37)
enjoying it because I think that will come across. We said we want to be authentic. So cheers to you Nat for really focusing in and doing that and for saying no and providing yourself the time that you need to get those tasks done.
Sugar Spice & Spirits Podcast (25:50)
Yeah, saying no is definitely something that I've had to work on because I have a couple of passion projects, that being the school board, obviously the podcast as well. And then I also have my businesses and I have several offsite businesses from commercial business to real estate and my flips and everything else.
And I want to do everything and be everything to everyone while maintaining my family, while maintaining my relationships. And there comes a point and there's a power with no. And just because you can doesn't mean you should. I was going to run for school board and I had to tell them, no, it's not a good time. just.
I mentally cannot add anything else to my plate because I have an elephant that I'm in the process of eating. also want to talk about time management with AI as it relates to whatever you want to, the way I look at AI is it's kind of like your vehicle. Whether you call your vehicle a girl or you call your vehicle a boy, whatever you call it, name it, however, or just utilize it, I don't care. But budgeting. So budgeting is part of the process and how do I like pay down my debt or how do I, you know, pay my bills? What's the fastest way to pay off this? Tell
your income, tell it what your goals are or ask them what they would do and with those prompts you can get a lot accomplished and it might make you think outside the box. Maybe it's a balance transfer to a zero card for 18 months that'll help you expedite the process instead of paying so much on interest. Whatever that is, utilize those resources to help you get there if you're executing the Dave Ramsey plan or anything along those lines. Also, using AI does not take away your authenticity. However,
If you just utilize it and you don't put in your own brain, I'm gonna challenge you to put in your own brain your own think your own thought Challenge AI challenge your your AI tool as well. Like this isn't sharp enough I need it witty or I need I need it with higher vocabulary or I need this so challenge AI to be Better for you to make you better. Like this is kind of blase I can tell can you give me something that has more? Substance more and then go in and think about
that because it triggers stuff as you go along. Another thing spouse of an entrepreneur I think that's probably a good topic for another show of what it's like because when my significant other and I had a disagreement the other day, toted as the FU fight, what came up in the FU fight was
Being with somebody who's a nine to fiver, like Kelly, you talked about that nine to five, how it's just easy, you work your time frame and then you're done, you turn off, you unplug, you're good. Hey, family, I'm yours, da da da da. But when we're an entrepreneur.
you don't have the turn off switch and especially when you're a realtor in real estate, people are home in the evening and they're home on the weekend and that's when you're responding. So it's hard to respect those boundaries for Christ and your Sunday day and it's hard to respect the boundaries for your family. So there does come a time when you have to unplug and let it go but it's that communication with your significant other and that time management whether you're blocking time. Friday evenings is my date night with my significant other and it's living
with that intention that'll maintain your sanity and maintain the event. Now maybe one Friday every three months or something because you've got a big task or a big goal but if every weekend is a big goal something is wrong in your life if you can't maintain that balance and relationship to where you are unplugging a little bit. Mindy and I are both very, I'm not saying you aren't Kelly, but I know Mindy and I are both working sometimes till 10-11, 11 o'clock at night or I'm up at like four in the morning sending
out emails talking and making stuff happen that I need to get done. But it's also living within that balance and that's where it's hard as a solo entrepreneur and that time management to fit everything in your your wheel house that you've got to get. There's a book or there's a video out there on YouTube and I'm gonna see if I can link it in here. So I need to put that note but it's Big Rocks and you'll see it's a lady like in the 70s or 80s and she's got a little sweat.
or her hair is pulled back, she's got brown hair, and she goes up and she has these big rocks and it's like your family, it's spiritual, it's your job, it's your kids, it's your husband, it's your finances, and you gotta put all the big rocks in and the video is phenomenal. I'll link it in the comments for the show on YouTube so you can see it, but it really is a representation on what you fill your life with. If you're scrolling on Facebook or social or TikTok or whatever it is, limit yourself, set a timer, be very diligent.

with that or if you're unwinding by playing a game make sure you set that time that it's not something you're continually doing because it will eat your day away and this video will kind of help show that and explain that it's it's really powerful from the seven habits of highly effective people so

Yeah, being really intentional. And one thing that I want to say, y'all, because I'm about to have to wrap up because since all of my faux pas earlier that y'all missed with the spilling of the coffee and everything else, we have reservations somewhere. However, a couple of things, and this goes back to what you said, Kelly, and what you said, Natalie, about AI.
Make sure you check what it is also giving you. If it's giving you any facts or a story or an illustration, I use different AIs. We mentioned one-ish or we kind of alluded to which one that might be that we tend to use often. I used a different one and I was asking questions and I was checking back and forth and there was something that I was stuck on. And one of the AIs gave me an example of a company that went through this transition. I was like, wow, that's a really cool story. It's like spot on.
research it and I may end up using it. I want to learn more because I'm going to research. It was a fictitious company. So I went back in and I said, hey, is this a real company? It was like, no, I made it up. It would go well with what you're trying to do. So I had to go in and say, don't use this. So a couple of things, of course, make sure that you research what it is telling you with different methods, the names of them, look at the different videos, go into and make sure it's a good source that it's pulling from. The other thing is,
oftentimes it will reset whatever...
whatever it is that's working with you has a lifetime of how long it's going to work with you, then you're resetting and then you're retraining. And you may not realize that. And maybe that is going to go by the wayside because of how much AI is changing. But it's just little things. You don't want to just rely on that. But when it comes to time management and all the things you just said, Natalie, and then Kelly, knowing the schedule you're working with and then putting your information in, not your personal information, but if a person was this and they had this type
of schedule and they were struggling here and these are the goals that they have. What suggestion do you have? And then fine tune it and tweak it and then you your things may change you may not like that and you can go back to it. Kelly I loved your example of going in there for recipes you can use it for working. There's so much you can use it for to be a guide and especially for solopreneurs but also those folks work in that corporate nine-to-five and they need to get more done and they feel like there's more stress and pressure on them. You think about the older generation that feels like

if

like
they're aging out, but they're like, I've got 10 or 15 more good years in me.
talk to AI and see what are some things, these are the things that I'm struggling with. Again, keep your personal information out of there, but these are things or a person I know. And then it's funny, it's like, okay, so tell your friend this, I'm asking for a friend. But you truly can use that, it will save you time, it will buy some of that stuff back and then it will also help you with whatever those struggles are if used the right way. I just listened to an episode recently of The Daily and I'm not sure exactly when this episode's gonna come out,
talked about some of the negativity with chat GPT and some of the relationships that are being developed and using it too much as a therapist if you would. There's a lot of research that's going into it, but I think for the generic type of information that we're asking on to be more productive with your time, I truly think that if you've been held back by it or you haven't really dove in with it, I would say try it. You you gotta try it and see if it's right for you. But I do believe it would be very, very

helpful. So, Kelly.

Away from AI, well actually you can incorporate AI in this, you know we were talking about our time management for business and entrepreneurs and all these, all these appointments and things, but you also need to factor in time for yourself. If you know, if you're an early bird, I'm an early bird. I tend to have more energy during the morning and I want to get all my stuff done in the morning. If you tend to be a night owl, like there's times guys that I'm sitting there and I am enjoying time with my husband and these two are like sending text messages out and I'm like,
get
off your phones, get off the computer, time for, but they, that's part of their time management. They love doing that kind of stuff. And I don't do well, I do well, I can get up at four o'clock in the morning and by 11 o'clock I've had almost a full day. And then by about three o'clock I'm like, I'd rather be outside laying by the pool and doing those types of things. But along those lines of self care, if you need to schedule in breaks during the day, whether it's
taking a lap around the block. Mindy will call me sometime and I'm like, you're walking, aren't you? Because you're breathing heavy. And she's like, yes. Sometimes it's to clear your head. Sometimes it's just to get your heart rate up. If you know that your day is gonna start at eight and you can be at the gym at five, great. If you can't do that, but you need to give yourself 15 minutes to get up and walk around the block or walk around the house or do some sit-ups or push-ups or whatever, it is just as important for your physical and your mental and your physiological self to factor
in, plan that. That is just as important. Your health is just as important as this podcast, this meeting, you know, your doctor appointment. It is just as important because you do not want to burn out and if you think about you've got all these other important meetings, you are the most important person because you are the only you that you've got. So you have to
Mindy (36:11)
Cheers to that!
Sugar Spice & Spirit Podcast (36:12)
Yes, you have to factor in time for yourself. Whether it's, I'm gonna give myself 15 minutes just to sit here and just meditate and do absolutely nothing. That's okay.
That's okay. Just like the bot resets, sometimes we have to reset and start with a clean slate and say, know what, especially if it's something stressful and you still have another half a day to go and you're like, I can't just shut down, find what works for you to get your battery recharged and then go for that. But schedule that time in, because there's a lot of people that neglect themselves because they have so many other tasks. You are a priority just as much as that next meeting is. So remember that.
Mindy (36:53)
